I would think the position of the lens release button couldn't be changed much if at all without a redesign of the mount, thus meaning all lenses would need to be redesigned and existing lenses would not be compatible with new bodies. They are normally mechanical and depress a spring-loaded pin on the body, which inserts into a hole in the lens. The lens has to align with the body in a specific way.

Simple fix: make the body a little wider on the grip side, allowing larger finger gap.

Agreed, but my comment was directed to those who asked for lens release button to be moved to the other side of the camera.

I agree that it would be impractical to move the current button to the other side -- it would require a complete rebuild of the design. I don't see the happening.

Sony needs to keep they technological advantages as long as possible, and hope other manufacturers don't exploit this sort of hardware issue or complaint. I can't argue with Sony's image quality!

Go back to the a9 style exposure compensation dial without the locking button. My a1 is currently in with Sony to have it fixed for the second time this year (button sticking when pressed/locked and dial needs to be wiggled while pressing button to unlock). I'll hopefully find out today what's going on as the camera was delivered to Sony CentralService last Wednesday (13th) but when I called yesterday they said they hadn't received it yet!

Hmm I can't count the times when I shifted the exposure dial a bit when putting the camera in my bag before, so please no ...

Since the standard allows FAT 12 and FAT 16 a long file name is incompatible with the standard.

Which really wouldn't be an issue as long as using longer names would be optional.

Yeah, I think realistically no one is using FAT 12 or FAT 16 anymore. I doubt there are many people who use FAT 32, that would be 32GB cards and smaller. FAT 32 allows long file names so even that is not an issue.

Iím usually for backward compatibility, but in this case itís time to move on.

Edit: I looked it up FAT16 is 2GB cards and smaller, I can't see anyone with a Sony FF using 2GB cards, not just small, but slow as none of the faster cards are that small.

I'd like a full lock for all settings. Maybe it exists and I don't know of it?
On safari recently I often found I'd accidently moved a setting (all sorts) in the excitement and speed of the action. ISO was the worst and happened most often but it wasn't that alone.

It exists and is called Lock Operation Parts. Itís in the Setup menu (toolbox), exact details can be found by searching the online helpguide for your specific model.

See my other posts above - there are two ways to lock, both useless.

I find Lock quite useful. I didnít know about the second method but that looks as if it might also have itís uses, so thanks for that.

To each his own

Just update the Rx1rii with the newer menu/features/AF and AI chip. That's it. I'll buy one tomorrow

You're welcome.

I think I explained it above but if not a quick precis : The first system doesn't lock down the Control Wheel - the part I most often accidently move and I've had quite a few ISO moves and other unwanted setting changes during fast action shooting that has ruined a number of shots before I chimp and notice and issue.

The second locks down everything - I don't see the point as you can no longer use the multi-selector for focus point or even use the AF-On button ! Pointless for 99.99% of people.

Why not lock all settings but still allow use of both multi-selector and especially AF-ON ?
