Nice job Grant. Not sure if looking for c/c but I'm very curious about your setup using a 400mm for high school games.

Where are you positioned during the game?
Limited to end zone out to 25 yard line or free rein of sidelines?

I'm thinking of renting Sony's 400mm for a high school game and trying to get a feel of its use/limitations when I normally have more freedom than the college/NFL photographers do.

From my perspective the 400mm is good from about 20 yrds out to 50 yrds. Ideally I would have a 2nd body with 70-200 f/2.8 to cover close work.

Two games with very different conditions. First game I had free range of the vistors sideline and there were only 5 photographers. Last Friday there were at least 45-50 photographers, stepping all over each other. I had free range of the visitors sideline but felt it was inappropriate to use it given the numbers (IMHO) so I stayed below the 30 yrd line on both sides and the end zone.

Looks like you found a good exposure/NR recipe...1/2500 at ISO 4000 looking pretty darn good!

I suspect you enjoyed putting your 400/2.8 back to work!
