Back in 1996 when I lived in Sarasota and when I was into astronomy I went to the Winter Star Party at Bahia Honda State Park. Darkest skies I've ever seen until I went camping at Kodachrome Basin State Park in UT 2 years ago. Also that weekend was one of the coldest on record at the time for the Keys! The place we rented had no heat, (who needs heat in the Keys?!) the hot water heater was not working and the stove and oven wasn't working either!
BK - Bahia Honda and the south spit of Big Pine are probably the darkest skies in Florida. That night the MW was clearly visible to the naked eye, which is always a huge plus.

That is gorgeous! How do you like that lens in general for night shots like this?
BK - I rented several 14-24mm lens and tested them side by side before I purchased the Sigma. In almost every category I thought the Sigma was the best fit, for me. I do use the lens for landscape and other purposes but I can’t image a better zoom for this purpose. Now if Sigma makes a Nikon mount for their new ART 14mm f/1.4 lens that is dedicated to Astro I might go for the upgrade.
