Does anyone know which tripod collar fits the 100mm 2.8 non L? I see the collar for the 100mm 2.8 L but don’t see any reference to the non L. Thanks

I have, and regularly use, the non L version and I've never even considered using a collar on it. I'm not really sure how or where the collar would be attached actually. It's not really all that heavy and I would think that having it mounted on a collar with a camera body hanging off the back would put undue stress on the lens mount. But my way of thinking is often time considered weird.....so there's that.

I use a collar when I'm on a tripod. Used to be with the EF 100/2.8 Macro USM. Now, with the EF 100/2.8 L IS Macro (and other lenses). The original was OK for handheld shooting. The IS is excellent. Using either of them on a monopod or tripod, is better.

I have both 100mm (usm & L) also sure I got the tripod collars too…somewhere??
I’m also thinking it’s the same collar that fits the 70-200F4L - could well be wrong , but I remember it was dual fitting for 2 separate canon lenses.

I've always had trouble with blurry images on smaller 300/4.5 and 180 Tamron. 100/2.8 isn't big enough to need one.

As jcolwell said, it's the Ring B(B), not to be confused with the Ring D(B), which is for the 'L' version. Note they both have '(B)' in their names, which just denotes that it is painted black, and makes searching for the actual B fitting tricky, especially if you shop for a third-party one as they often mix up the names. I recommend looking for a second hand official Canon unit.

Though, very few cameras will benefit from using a tripod collar with the 100mm, and in fact in some cases it can be structurally detrimental. Check how much your camera body weighs (including battery, cards, and any accessories you may have on it). If your camera weighs much over 600g (such as a 5D) then it's safer to attach tripods to the camera body rather than this lens; if it weighs much under 600g (such as a 1000D) then it's better to use the tripod collar on the lens. Basically, you always want to attach the tripod to whichever is heavier, so the lighter part is what's left hanging off the mount. The mounts of many lenses may look metal, but they're almost always just screwed into plastic, and the 'gold ring' 58mm filter family of mid-range USM lenses—like the 100mm f/2.8—are all built that way; if you hang a heavy camera body off the back of one of those lenses, the plastic threading is what has to take all the weight, and unsurprisingly it can end up bending out of shape.
If the weight is within +/- 100g then you can attach tripods to either and it shouldn't make any difference, the lens mount can definitely take 700g.

The B(B) Tripod Ring also needs an additional plastic insert in order to be used with the EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro. This comes with the B(B) when new, but if you were to buy one used, make sure it is included. (the EF 180mm Macro or MPE-65 Macro do not use the plastic ring)

The much older non-USM EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro has no provision for a tripod ring.

I am not sure whether or not it matters, but Canon has manufactured 2 100mm f/2.8 Macro lenses. First one is not USM, Second one is USM. And of course the 100L. The referenced table only lists 100mm f/2.8 with no mention of USM or not.

EDIT: Sorry, the box in the photo above seems to clear up the matter.

For sure. It's the USM (as on the box). Still, it's worth mentioning. I forgot about the adapter ring needed for the 100/2.8 Macro USM, even though I had one.

The benefit of a tripod collar on the 100mm macro lens is that it allows attachment of arms for macro flashes. It's not a weight consideration at all. At least not for me.

I bought the collar from eBay. Just got it today and sure enough it didn’t fit. I’m just reading these additional comments and now I know why it doesn’t fit. I still need the adapter for the lens. :-/
