p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · couple of rats

For a variety of reasons I was unable to spend a whole lot of time roaming around at the car show yesterday.

However I did manage to find a couple of rats that caught my eye.

I can only imagine that these contraptions have GOT to be a blast to build and then ride around in.

Sort of a Mad Max vibe but with J.S. Speaker (or knockoff) headlights. Well, okay then.

Hey Larry...

They look like club members of the rats that go to Bonneville...

One from my catalog...

Peter,
I'd have to agree with the Mad Max analogy.
I think with these builds literally anything goes as far as parts used is concerned. "OMG...look at that!" is heard a lot from us wanderers.
Still though....fun!

Rags,
I think most of these Rat Finks are of the same mind...some more out of theirs than others.

I had a 1982 Sportster, wasn't paying attention and left my top layer of skin on an Oregon firetrail after being knockout for 15 minutes. Luckily I wore a helmet!
Sold my bike the next week. Still have scar tissue from a fractured clavicale. Can't throw!

Memories LB! I had fake whitewalls on my '55 Chevy. I needed some tires and a guy down the street had a'56 he was taking to the junk yard, but it had good tires with those fake whitewalls. He told me I could swap my bad tires for his (guess he took pity on a 16 year old kid). His tires had the fake whitewalls. Took me a while to change them out. I used his jack and mine to change them out one at a time then roll them 6 six houses down the street. Bought some gloss black Rustoleum to paint the wheels, then added a set of Baby Moons. Classy.

Ray, Great story! Those were truly the good old days.

I gotta admit. when I first saw the "bent" white walls I chuckled to myself and thought "why would anybody have whitewalls that looked like that? Why didn't he straighten them out when he parked?" It wasn't until I got home and started processing my catch of the day that it dawned on me.....they were bent ON PURPOSE Rat Fink would be so proud.

I wish I would have had taken the time to grab a few more detail images. Some of the odd "parts" I noticed were truly ingenious. For instance....one of the door hing pins was one of those t-shaped tools you get with a chainsaw....the one with the screwdriver on one end and two different size "sockets" on the other end.

Ray MOST kids back then did this! I was one of many in my area. We were young and dumb, at least our elders thought so, we created the memories that we view now! Talk about immorality!

I had to get front tires for my 1956 Chevy. I didn't even have enough to pay the full price. And I had 2 jobs! The tire store cashier had pity on me an gave them to me at all that I had cash.

Tommy Ivo's 4 engine dragster started me thinking about all kinds of goofy modifications to my models.
