Rio Grande Gorge Bridge near Taos. The gorge is the visible scar of the Rio Grande Rift that lies from central Colorado south to Chihuahua, Mexico. It separates the Colorado Plateau in the west from the interior of North America to the east. Not as well known as the Great Rift Valley in East Africa but nonetheless here it is in our backyard.
