Several shots from last night's game.

Really love the first few games of the season with the setting sun and ambient light that lingers for a bit.

Still working my NR technique within LR with the Denoise feature...especially with these noisy Z9 files...especially crossing 3200 ISO.

Any C&C in general much appreciated, especially pertaining to NR and WB adjustments.

Thanks for looking JC

NR looks ok to me on my screen - doesn't seem that your ISO was really that high compared to what I saw this weekend with rec league softball and baseball! !

Lots of good, peak action - love those expressions on the players when you catch them like you did. One thing I noticed was that for #1 and 7 there were enough players out of the focal plane that it seemed to detract from the photo IMHO. A tighter crop would have taken care of that, but then the whole perspective you were wanting to show wouldn't be there.

Might have to rent a 400 f2.8 sometime. Used the RF 100-500 today for youth football but the aperture sucks. I've got to study shots like yours to learn how to shoot football better!

Excellent series.

Eyes, peak action, ball, sharp focus, terrific facial expressions.

I don’t see any noise on the images, but I am not able to blow them up to see what happens as I drill into the image.

I assume that as the evening went on and the sun set, your ISO went up to 5000 on # 8, 8000 on #9 and 6400 on # 10. Did you adjust your settings to achieve proper exposure in camera? Or did you increase the brightness during post?

Did you find you had to reduce the white slider and highlights slider to deal with clipping on reflective edges and surfaces (#8 and #9) ?

Thanks for the confirmation on the NR. The lighting at this stadium has improved over the year, so mostly can live around 6400 with an occasional bump to 8000 at the ends of the field.

Good comment on the OOF players. I like to add depth and perspective to shots if possible, so always like to add something from the background and foreground if possible...again to add depth. Same with left and right with the crop...almost like framing the subject with content within the frame. I think #7 is just a lucky shot where I probably was tracking the ball carrier and the DB was only in focus....one benefit were higher frame rates give more possibilities for 'spontaneous' shots like this one.

Thanks for looking and taking the time to post your helpful comments and feedback!

Thanks Grant!

As for exposure....the first hour of the game is a mixed bag of sun/shade and the constant changing due to the setting sun. Once things balance out....about 30m after sunset, the lights are the primary source and I usually float around 1/1000, f2.8, and 6400 with an occasional bump to 8k. But then again - I may bump a setting inadvertently when moving around, so I'm constantly checking vitals in the view finder.

As for sliders....most get a little tweak based on the lighting where the shot was taken. I monitor the histogram, which is nice in the Z9 where you can have it displayed in the viewfinder...but for DSLRs, I used the 'Blinky' feature in Preview to assess. So - it's a dance of bumping exposure as needed while balancing the other sliders.

Thanks for the post and feedback!

Can't tell you how many times I've done that with EV! The ISO somehow got set to 100 instead of auto yesterday (not sure how!) and quickly saw through the viewfinder that with my 1/4000 shutter speed things weren't right!! I need to do better at double checking things in the viewfinder, too.
