Looking for an option that I has to think exists but seems I'm not able to find it (R6ii).... Is there a way to always have the curtain cover the sensor when the camera is turned off, regardless of shooting mode?

I'm finding that when I turn the camera off when in "silent" mode or electronic shutter mode (which seems like exactly the same thing), the sensor is exposed. I expect that to get more dust in when swapping lenses (plus the tissue paper thin blades give me a psychological feeling of extra safety for the sensor ).

In mechanical or first curtain electronic, the blades cover the sensor as you would expect.

In silent shutter (page 304) they don't want the sound of the shutter closing. Switch to another setting.

Thx Imagemaster... BUT I have that option set to closed.... and it does not do that... If silent mode is set when I turn off the camera then the shutter is OPEN If I turn off silent mode and then turn the camera off then the shutter is indeed closed.

EB-1... Thanks!... That is what's causing it. Ugg... I really just want the electronic shutter mapped to a button but can only get silent mode mapped... and that explains why silent mode is different from just electronic shutter because it does a stack of other things... like keeping the shutter OPEN. I mean, I get it... Going back to see if there is a way to map just the shutter mode to a button.

Unfortunately the software engineers don't actually use the cameras like photographers.

Seems like it should be a bit of a thing to gather requirements etc...... Does not appear there is a DIRECT way to do what I want... a simple mapping of a button to flip between first curtain & electronic (I'd accept toggle thru all values if I had to). While it might not be a want of someone/anyone else... why not just define all discrete functions (mechanical shutter/spot focus etc.) + actions (on/off/centre etc.) so they can be mapped to button/dial/whatever. Some clever person might allow them to be grouped into custom sets and assign the set to a button .

But I guess the dev time is spent on that more critical menu that lets me set image ratings in camera or changes how the images are rotated for TV display when plugged into a camera (has anyone ever done that) .

I know I could probably define as a C1/C2 thing... but that's ugly... although less ugly than leaving the sensor to collect dust.
