Compactness is relative, and I would say that relative to the size of the negative, the G(S)W690 is compact.

I fully agree with that! I alway find that the IQ from the 6 x 9 very special and makes carrying it worthwhile.

If you want a fun answer, X2D + Contax G Hologon M-mount modified, and an adapter. With 100Mpix you can crop away to a telephoto look! It's a super-slim package, almost fits in a pocket.

Yeah but, no but, yeah but my Zeiss Ikon Nettar 6x9 is less than half the size my GW690 was.

I'd take a Mamiya 7 w/65mm or a X2D with 38v.

I already have a Fuji GSW690II and a Pentax 67 in my bag

I would love to try a Fuji GF670W.

+1 that 44x33 digital isn't really "medium format" ... but, I'd be interested to hear folks take on their 1 body / 1 lens for that, too (i.e. anything larger than 35mm format of 24x36), film, digital or otherwise.

You do relise that there have been several medium format films used over the years that were smaller than 645 and larger than 24x36mm?

Small format: Width to 35mm
Medium format: Larger then 35mm to 60mm.
Larger format: Larger then 60mm, usually in sheets.

Been like this for a hundred years.

My X2D has a 55V on it 80% of the time.

It isn't a dramatic choice like many of you, but I really like my Mamiya AFDIII w/45mm f/2.8, either with a film back or an IQ160.

Still, I have too many cameras, so I could also choose my Hasselblad 2000FCW w/110mm f/2.

Here in my part of New Mexico, water for film processing is out of the question.

Given a blank check, I'm pretty sure I could get by with a Fuji GFX100s & the GF 32-64 lens.

I have nothing to offer, but, am enjoying this discussion.

This reminds me that I should try to contact my grade-school journalism teacher*, from the 1975-1976 school year, and ask which camera she was using, at the time. I developed some of the film that it had shot, and it served to implant an interest in acquiring a “real pro” camera, someday. I may have taken a few shots with it, but am no longer certain, one way or the other. A TLR, it would be be technically ineligible for a “one lens/one camera” discussion.

*During the “hide inside” time of the Great Panic-Demic, I was able to find an address for my journalism teacher, who was still married to one of my physical education teachers/coaches. I am grateful for the reminder that I should contact them, now that the era of social isolation is finished.

The a7c right now to maintain the Rodenstock and the ACB-310. We’ll see if the CR works with those bellows.

Just took the Hasselblad X1D + 45/4P XCD lens as one lens/body combo to Europe for ten days. Here are few images from Strasbourg, France this weekend.
