Even though I (non pro) would use a TS24,17 Laowa 15, 20 and R5, because I would peer into the corners and be fussed by the outcome, jgoetz4 post shows that if you are 'only' printing to 'small' (eg to8x10) - any last gen apsc or older model ff will do.
He is using a tripod and it looks like AEB/HDR and processing and is paying attention to level shooting. I would guess that his kit would require lots of cropping (and degradation in corners when printed really large) but the outcome is very commercially salable. The only time you will struggle is when you get a (non pro) pixel peepers like me - who likely will ask what you are shooting with and assume you are not capable because you are using lessor equipment.
My daughter got married 2 summers ago and her selected photographer showed up with an apsc camera and apsc lens and a good attitude. I was a bit worried and offered her my 85/1.2 and 24-70L and 5dsr but she declined. She did a great job with her apsc and the price was great. I recommend her to all people for price and attitude going forward. You need skills far more than the best camera. [ I met her lately and she has 70-200 2.8 and 24-70L - she must be doing better now commercially - which speaks to pride in work. I am reaching out to her for newborn pictures because price matters and my new grandson is so cute and iPhone would work ]...Show more →
Scott, I actually printed a few 12 x18 prints, and they came out pretty good. These were shot with the 40D, processed normally, with little cropping. When I used the 10-22 on the 5D, there was more cropping. This church picture was cropped, but still had enough resolution for a 12 x 18 print.
