I'm curious about everyone's thoughts on the most cost-effective Canon camera body for professional interior photography. I'd really appreciate hearing your recommendations and the reasoning behind them. best bang for the buck!

Interior of what? Buildings? Anything will work fine. Put your money into a tilt shift lens or two and lights. I'd get a full frame body since the TS lenses won't be as wide on a crop body.

Real estate or arhitecture? I'd shop for something with a good sensor, since you'll have to lift shadows quite often. 5D4 or the newest mirrorless wil do just fine.

On a more serious note, the R is probably a pretty good deal these days. I'm the DSLR guy, but supposed to have good sensor.

Interior professional shots imply - tripod shooting, perspective issues (need to shoot level).

But you did not say what you do with these pictures - post online (24mpx is lots), large enlargements its better to have 45mpx plus.

I would say the most cost effective canon body is a 5ds (not r because of moire) and ts24 (not ts17 because of challenges with distortion at edges) or laowa shift 20mm.

5ds because its inexpensive and 51mpx which leaves you cropping and big enlargements. Hi dynamic range does not matter on a tripod. R5 works too but at $2500 more dollars

TS24 or Laowa 20mm because you have to either shoot level and throw away pixels or correct perspective in LR and reduce resolution and cause work. Not TS17 or Laowa 15 shift as first lens but yes as 2nd because 24 or 20 have less distortion on edges. If you are saving money 20mm Laowa shift and 15mm Laowa shift. Canon have less colour issues but Laowa works with adjustment. Canon have less fine distortions but no one will notice.

If you want mirrorless - its either r8 or r5 for least expensive. R8 will do the job on the tripod but its only 24mpx.

Yeah, I'm not seeing that in his link. Perhaps 'striving to be' is more in line with his current status, and thus the open-ended question about equipment.

The whole site looks like it was generated by a drunken bot. Paragraphs are gibberish.
Even if it is legitimate who would hire someone with a site like that?

I use to shoot construction progress pictures for Whiting-Turner. At the time I had a 40D and a 5D, tripod and the old 10-22 EF-s lens. I modified the lens to work on the 5D. 8 x 10 prints is all they required, and at the end of the day, everyone was happy.

Even though I (non pro) would use a TS24,17 Laowa 15, 20 and R5, because I would peer into the corners and be fussed by the outcome, jgoetz4 post shows that if you are 'only' printing to 'small' (eg to8x10) - any last gen apsc or older model ff will do.

He is using a tripod and it looks like AEB/HDR and processing and is paying attention to level shooting. I would guess that his kit would require lots of cropping (and degradation in corners when printed really large) but the outcome is very commercially salable. The only time you will struggle is when you get a (non pro) pixel peepers like me - who likely will ask what you are shooting with and assume you are not capable because you are using lessor equipment.

My daughter got married 2 summers ago and her selected photographer showed up with an apsc camera and apsc lens and a good attitude. I was a bit worried and offered her my 85/1.2 and 24-70L and 5dsr but she declined. She did a great job with her apsc and the price was great. I recommend her to all people for price and attitude going forward. You need skills far more than the best camera. [ I met her lately and she has 70-200 2.8 and 24-70L - she must be doing better now commercially - which speaks to pride in work. I am reaching out to her for newborn pictures because price matters and my new grandson is so cute and iPhone would work ]

Scott, I actually printed a few 12 x18 prints, and they came out pretty good. These were shot with the 40D, processed normally, with little cropping. When I used the 10-22 on the 5D, there was more cropping. This church picture was cropped, but still had enough resolution for a 12 x 18 print.

the only question is why bother w/ Canon body in this setup - go Sony body that's it... you will be able to mount the same lenses and get more MP and better DR ( which matters even on tripod ) .. some 61mp A7R4 used is <= $2K any time

get used Sony A7R4 with EF to FE adapter - cost less delivers more ... remember for totally static interiors and with a good tripod it will do a useful multi-shot to raw... while Canon still can't do it ( that primitive multi-shot to JPG in R5 is a joke )

A few lenses to go with that. RF 14-35 F4. The 15-35 is 2.8 but another $900. You don't need 2.8 with the modern NR software these days. Many years ago I shot real estate for a short time and I always stopped down for DOF.

The RF 16 2.8 is great piece of glass and inexpensive. Sharp lens.
