So, the hummer being held, was he just banded? Do you work there or they just let you take photo's? Either way, kudos to you and those that track and keep the populations of these little guys going.

Thanks Eric. Where we lived a number of years ago, we had the highest count of Rufous Hummingbirds on Vancouver Island, anywhere from 400-700 individuals visiting our feeders each day. A banding group came up from Victoria a couple of times. They would capture the birds in netting then wrap them in a tissue 'straightjacket'. They would weigh them, measure them, check for lice, etc., etc.
The hummers remain quite calm during this process. They will even take a handheld drink during the process. When the wrapping is removed, they calmly remain on their backs in the bander's hand for a few seconds before flying away. Some of the same banded hummers returned to our home the next year.
