My A7CR arrived last night, I am super impressed how it feels in the hand. My only experience being the a9/a9ii/a7iii and no A7c experience, the EVF doesn't bother me at all and I seem to be able to nail manual focus without issue. The lack of joystick is okay because the AF point can be moved with the back wheel, though I need to see if there is a way to set a hotkey to reset it to center.
The rear LCD isn't impressive but I can't really tell that it's lower res than the A9(1.4 vs 1 million dots I think), if anything colors look better on it. I'd like to see Sony up their rear LCD game big time, one would think it would sell more cameras in store too if people see a nice vibrant sharp display.
Regarding the EFCS, well I did a few test shots this afternoon. These are all shot at 1/4000, I tried to do a medium and close focus bokeh with both the CV40 @ 1.2 and the Sigma 45 @ 2.8, I tried to keep the bokeh balls roughly the same size for the medium and close shots. I was too lazy to set up a tripod or do anything much more scientific than this.
CV40mm @ 1.2
Sigma 45 @ 2.8
I had heard this before but it's certainly a combination of the shutter speed and the aperature. Even with relatively large bokeh balls with the sigma 2.8, the chopped bokeh hardly shows up compared to the CV40 1.2. In fact with any 2.8 lens I don't think I'm going to worry about the EFCS bokeh at all until I see it actually compromise a shot in normal shooting. I still might test my 70-200 2.8 to see if super large bokeh balls @ 2.8 are affected. The bokeh on the CV 40 is definitely not ideal but neither is 1/4000 max shutter speed to be using that lens wide open, so if anything it's just a lens I might carry an ND filter for though more realistically I'll favor the sigma 45 until it's night time. So I guess despite all the complaints with EFCS due to the 1/4000 max SS, you probably should carry NDs anyway if you're shooting fast primes, I don't plan to be in this situation often though. If you're using nice compact 2.8 primes it's probably not something to worry about at all.
