p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · AI plugin or tool with facial or number recognition for sports shooting?

Is anyone aware of an AI plugin or tool with facial or number recognition for sports photographers?

It would be amazing if there was a tool that was able to select athletes based on number or face and sort them in a folder or tag.

The few times I've shot sports, the editing process is far more intensive and less enjoyable than the shooting process.

Any insight on your workflows that might make this easier?

There are such technology and I know someone who I shoot for uses facial recognition, in addition to bib number tagging. I never ask him how it is done. That's part of his trade secret. You can enter the bib number on his site and it would tell you the name of the athletes as well.

I've been doing it manually, but I'm with you on wanting an AI tool. My partner got it to work with one of the free online platforms, but each photo had to be uploaded individually. What I'd love is a plug in for a program like PhotoMechanic. I just need to find someone with the skills and pay them to create it.

A photo mechanic plug-in would be ideal!!

I've been trying out a program called Caption Pro. Just used the free trial to see how good it was and it's the real deal. Needs a better user interface/workflow options before I can switch over from Photo Mechanic though.

I have been tagging bib numbers manually BUT..........is not as hard as one thinks. I won't go into the details. If you can see it, you can tag it during the editing process. But....sometimes, the bib numbers aren't always visible at all time. Another BUT is that....not everyone is buying photos despite that you are shooting for the events. So, invest in some significant money into the face and bib number recognition technology may cut into your profits.

Yup, Victor said it Complete numbers and/or faces are not always visible. That's the nature of the beast when it comes to shooting sports. Doubt the technology will ever get close to 100%, regardless, the cost will tug hard on profitability.

I hear you. We do a couple of XC races and track meets where we're contracted to shoot everyone and entries run up over 1000 people for the XC and over 2000 for the track. The AI number reading would literally take days of work off our post-production, and we're very experienced inputing numbers into IPTC fields quickly with keypads and so on.

We're seriously thinking of commissioning someone to write a PM plug-in or something similar that would do the job. If anyone reading this post might be interested in getting in on this drop me a DM. I teach at a university with a big computer engineering department and might be able to find someone to do it. Come to think of it, I also coach a couple of software engineering students. Hmmm....

I have been demoing a plugin for lightroom from https://www.sportvisionai.com/ I'm not affiliated with them, It seems to work pretty well for bike race plates, but it's not perfect. It stores the information directly in lightroom, so you can use it to filter in lightroom, but you can't export at this time
