I hear you. We do a couple of XC races and track meets where we're contracted to shoot everyone and entries run up over 1000 people for the XC and over 2000 for the track. The AI number reading would literally take days of work off our post-production, and we're very experienced inputing numbers into IPTC fields quickly with keypads and so on.
We're seriously thinking of commissioning someone to write a PM plug-in or something similar that would do the job. If anyone reading this post might be interested in getting in on this drop me a DM. I teach at a university with a big computer engineering department and might be able to find someone to do it. Come to think of it, I also coach a couple of software engineering students. Hmmm....

Complete numbers and/or faces are not always visible. That's the nature of the beast when it comes to shooting sports. Doubt the technology will ever get close to 100%, regardless, the cost will tug hard on profitability.
