I think I am over GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). I just received the Canon 14-35mm f/4 L IS Lens a few minutes ago. So far, I am very happy with my purchases.
Canon EOS R5
14-35mm f/4 L IS USM
RF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens
RF 50mm f/1.2 L USM Lens
RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens
RF 135mm f/1.8 L IS USM Lens
RF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens
RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM Lens
Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R
Canon Extender RF 1.4x
I fully understand the pros and cons of each lens. My deciding factor was needs vs want. I primarily photograph birds. Since 95% of my bird photography is in my backyard, I could not justify the purchase of the Canon RF 100-300mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens. Also, with the 100-300mm lens having a Minimum Focus Distance 5.9’ / 1.8 m, I would rarely get much use out of that lens. The reason being that most of the birds in my yard are a couple of inches to 20 feet from me.
So, why did I get the other lenses if I primarily photograph birds. Because I love taking pictures of my family and friends and wanted the best lenses for portrait photography. I am planning on taking landscape during this fall (reason for the 14-35mm lens.)
Cost did not play as much of a deciding factor in my purchase as weight did. I have trouble shooting with heavy lenses. I love IS another reason I purchases what I did. I almost always use a tripod.
I still have and love my 90D camera and the nine EF lenses. With the 90D my keeper rate is almost always 100%. With the R5 it is around 95%.
I have been photographing for over twenty years and will continue until I can no longer pick up a camera.
