Single Eneloop and Single AA Charger?

p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Single Eneloop and Single AA Charger?

Used the flash some yesterday, it's been recharging kind of odd comparitively lately, slow, looks like the voltage is low on one cell. Irritating to have 3 good (if pretty old) Eneloops nothing takes 3.

I mostly do outdoor photography using flash, as opposed to events etc, it's irritating if I have to go recharge but probably not going to carry extra AA's into the field anyway. So I don't really keep extra sets around that might have one that had gone bad, besides usually last 2-3 days if I'm using them (see username lol.) I'll probably go buy another set of 4 energizers today, but any suggestions? Not sure if you can do a lot using 3 although I have some single AA stuff

While I'm at it a single AA charger could be handy. Any suggestions there?

PITA. I just pitched 4 eneloops. One wold not charge and another one was slow. I still have 2 sets. Have you tried a recondition cycle? That often works on weird cells.

Get a NiMH analyzer like MH-C9000Pro. Discharge and perform a break-in. It will tell you the capacity left in the batteries. Your batteries will thank you.

I think I'll try that, I ran them through one reconditioning cycle, might not hurt to do another. Probably just let them sit too long. Are you using the 2000 mah ones or the Pro, 2000mah supposed to last better

Most any good charger charges each cell separately.

This may not be the answer you are looking for, but just buy more Eneloops. I have about two dozen of the AA's now, I keep them charged and try to make sure to cycle them at least once a year. Don't overthink this, Eneloop are amongst the best.

I store them in Storacell devices. I have two of the 12-AA holders that I keep in my cabinet at home but I have a 4-AA holder that I keep in my camera bag. Admittedly, my flashes are all Godox and thus don't use AA's, but my Godox transmitters do. I always keep two fresh AA's in the transmitter but bring at least four extra "just in case". I think this line of thinking would work splendidly for you.

Over years of use and having many Eneloops, I think I have thrown away three or four of them. One of them I somehow forced into a weird device and it physically damaged the battery. Oddly enough, I don't remember what the device was I just remember throwing the battery away. Two of them I threw away because they got wet and rusted, that was on me. One (maybe two) of them I threw away because they literally went bad, but that was after years of use.

Get an 8 pack for $24.00, don't worry about having an even "set" or anything to that extent. You'll have 11 total, which simply means you have extras to your 8 pack. I don't worry about keeping a "set" together but some people do. I don't really know how many of these I have as I have devices all throughout the house that I have these batteries in. I don't even think about it until a device dies and it's time to change the batteries. Eneloops go into a pile in my office until I charge them.

Purchase whatever Storacell combination that makes sense to you.

As far as "letting them sit too long", these are advertised to have a 70% charge if you charge them and let them sit on the shelf for 10 years.

The thing I've seen cause me the most issues is if I leave them in a flashlight that is on. Sometimes, the device will drain a cell "too far" which means the charger may or may not think the battery operates correctly. What do I do in this scenario? I've had decent luck with putting a "broken" battery in a two-cell flashlight with a fully charged flashlight. These two batteries in series will sometimes force some juice through the dead cell (and thus charge/wake it up enough) and thus the charger will then charge it correctly.

I'm quite surprised you don't have anything that takes only 3 batteries. Most small flashlights use 3 AA batteries. If anything I'd say I have more things in the house which use 3 cells than 4 at this point.

Another suggestion is if you know anyone who has kids and uses rechargeable batteries. Most of those toys I've seen are also some combination of either 3 AAA or AA batteries.

I've seen very few flashlights that use AA or AAA batteries in the past 10 years. Most use Li-ion 18650, 16340, 21700, or even some 26650 cells. That's not counting those that use internal or specialty battery packs.

I like the single AA sipik clones for AA, most/all take 14500 too I believe. Li ion is great, I usually use those, it's nice to have AA too though.

The problem being my quality (AFAIK) Maha charger charges 2 or 4 at a time, and I'd think it's better to have matching V, although if that's not necessary things a lot easier.

I agree with "LH3r". My enloop chargers have 4 slots and I have at least 4 different series of that AA btty and never had a problem. Just used 4 of the 1st version this past Saturday and had no problems.

Thanks for the info on that other charger. Nothing like going out on a shoot and batteries are low or dead!

Most come with holders fr 2 or 3 batteries. 18650 et al hold more power and can be recharged.

I picked up some of the 2300 mah Energizers I liked before but the flash seems to be acting about the same. Probably need to use a different multi-meter to check voltage on the AA's, get some odd results at times.
