I worked in print media. In the early 80's the 4 colour strippers said they would never be replaced. Then PS showed up one day. It was rumoured a commercial license was somewhere between $75,000 and $150,000.

I started with Photoshop 2, scanning black and white and color images for reproduction in print media. I believe 2 was the first with CMYK which is why the company started with that version. Takes me back.

Six months later I’d walk into pre-press and all the strippers were sitting behind these big square Macs. Then customers became aware if direct to plate and stated to refuse to pay for film. Had to switch to that as well. Takes back too.

PageMaker originated as an Aldus product, as did FreeHand—which is, to this day, my preferred tool for vector art since it still runs on current versions of Windows (thank God I don't use a mac).

You're right. Loved Pagemaker. Didn't ever like it the replacement Over time I've switched to Affinity Publish. Excellent replacement.
