The only other thing not yet mentioned, that I can think of, is also from the olden days. The grease used to lubricate lens helical gears was a problem in high temps, as the old grease could separate into three components;
(i) hard, dry stuff, that makes for 'stiff' (or stuck) focus and zoom rings, on old lenses;
(ii) oily, fluid stuff, that often ends up on the aperture blades, and makes them sluggish (or stuck);
(iii) and vapour, that can condense elsewhere in the lens, often on internal elements.
This problem could be either of the last two cases, but I haven't seen it. My EF 70-200/2.8L IS II has seen at least two months of trunk- and hand-time in the Utah deserts (over four or five years), and it is fine. OTOH, it's hotter now.
