Does anyone notice this on their RF 70-200mm f/2.8 lens?

p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Does anyone notice this on their RF 70-200mm f/2.8 lens?

Hello,

I am having some trouble with my Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8. When I move through the zoom range, slowly turning the barrel from 70mm to 200mm, I get a slight "flicker."

All of my exposure settings are manually controlled and locked in camera. This is the only lens which exhibits the problem.

Here is a video of the issue:

At certain points during the zoom, the area in the middle of my grey card "flickers." Does anyone else experience this on their own lens? I used False Color to call better attention to it.

Thanks for taking a look!
Mike

Interesting. Is it possible that it isn't a true constant aperture, but rather a stepped approximation of such?

Have you tried to update the firmware on the lens to 1.1.4?

That's absolutely how it seems. Hope it's not the case!

Oh! I didn't know about that. I will when I get home.

IDK if it's due to the false color but it looks like you have focus peaking turned on and the AF is jumping about 7 times while you're zooming. What body are you using? My R5 doesn't allow focus peaking while in AF mode so I don't know how that's possible unless your body allows that.

Interesting

Thanks for taking a look, lighthound. The False Color was added in post to accentuate the issue.

To demonstrate the flickering effect in manual focus, I took this video, as well: https://youtu.be/Y6pPcmhf4K8
