p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Little vs Little in the deep shadows of Miller Creek

This Little Green Heron spent its time fishing for breakfast in the deep shadows of Miller Creek. I went right by on my kayak and caught a glimpse of movement and drifted bck. The LGH was set under the root of a tree leaning into Miller Creek buried in brush.
As you can (barely) see in the second image, the little fish was no match for the Little Green Heron

Love the stealthy, peekaboo of the second here, Bob!

Unique feel to these in the processing Bob. For me #1 is bit too centered. The yak continues to give you gifts, nice shooting

I like that you kept the images dark to provide the feel that you experienced Bob. The natural framing allowed you to center your subject in the first image. The second requires a good look to see the little fish. Nice work!

Thanks Karl. My Kayak is my best photography tool after my camera. However a drifting, bobbing kayak coupled with holding a fairly heavy rig means a high shutter speed - 26,500 is high ISO which contributes to the processing feel. This winter I will be adding some small weights I can drop via pulleys from the front and rear to stabilize the kayak. I also hope the lighter weight of the pending (maybe) Nikon zoom will also help so I can get the shutter speed down.

Thanks Morris. It also took awhile for me to spot the fish.

Good eye seeing this guy who blends in so well. I love the first, and the centering feels right to me with the foliage forming a nice frame around the bird.

Well done. Really like the comp and drama of #1, Bob.
You might consider pinching up the shadows and highlights just a tad.
