I cropped out the vignetting. This lens is totally useable on film for infinity shots as well as up close. It really is built very well, and handles very nicely. And one thing I like about a $200 lens? I don't worry about protective filters..

Are you saying that with a film M, the 'hard' vignetting does not show as much?

No it is the same. You need to crop it out. What I mean is that once you calibrate the focus using a digital M, focus is accurate via rangefinder on a film M (no other way of focusing!).
On a digi M you could cheat and use live view.

Focus was waaaaay off via rangefinder on both film and digital Ms until I calibrated. So far off it was obvious TTA did not even bother. I guess that is how they can sell it for $200..

it's too bad about the vignetting. It's like shooting with a APS-C lens.

Yeah that’s how I described it earlier in this thread as you have to treat it like a 135mm lens if you don’t want the hard vignetting. But it is a very interesting lens. And very cheap.

The M-mount version likely has reduced vignetting when attached to a mirrorless camera body due to the additional spacing.

I just tested it on my Z7, using a Kipon adapter. At 2.8 no vignetting, 4 slight but not really noticeable. F8 the hard vignetting kicks in.

It's weird, it seems like it is an APS-C lens but philipreeve (Bastian's site) tested this on a Sony FF with no issues at all. I've emailed for a refund or exchange if mine is a one-off.

Quoting myself to answer your question Fred.
The M mount version is a bit better adapted to my Z7, but if you don’t want vignetting get the non M mount version.

I wish TTArtisan would tweak the M-mount version to reduce the vignetting because I much prefer the M-mount for its rangefinder focusing capability.

However, I have this lens glued at f/2.8, and the vignetting isn’t too bad. It’s similar to what I get with the Leica 50/1 Noctilux. I have to remember that these are character lenses.

I ended up getting a TTArtisan 100mm f/2.8 in M-mount and could not be happier.

When adapted to my Sony A7CR, vignetting is very manageable. I created a Lightroom preset that nearly eliminates it if needed. On the M10-R, vignetting is higher, but I don't mind it, especially after correction in post.

Here are my first test images with this lens under hard lighting. It was focused with the LM-EA9 AF adapter which gave me solid results. The rendering is reminiscent of the original Trioplan, which I also own. The construction is very high quality, and the rangefinder alignment is perfect.

Your rf alignment was perfect?
Mine was way off.

I read your report on this thread and was expecting the worst, but I couldn't be happier --- t's 100% aligned with the RF. That said, the best thing about TTArtisan lenses is that they offer a very simple way to align the rangefinder.

I'm impressed by the lens build quality and how faithfully it reproduces the Tripolan's characteristics, even in flare. Focusing with the rangefinder is a joy, something I couldn't do with the original lens.

TTArtisan makes some cool lenses. I love their 35mm f/0.95 for the Fuji: https://www.ttartisan.com/?list_10/159.html

Once I adjusted my lens - thank goodness for digital Ms! - the rf is perfect on both film and digital. Build is very nice, focus is very smooth. Only issue is the hard vignette on Ms as you stop down. But once you know that, you compose accordingly.

Like this lens' rendering and bokeh. Here it's the M-mount on a Sony A7Riv.
