For the life of me, I can't find a 34-39mm step up ring. Been looking for one for my vintage Canon ltm lenses as well.
Why doesn't someone make this? There's plenty of 34-37, but that's just as useful as nothing at all.
I kind of wish CV hadn't been so slavish to the vintage style on the Type 1 in terms of filters.

That ring is E 0.5 on both sides. Filter thread pitch is something that's always confused me. Aren't modern lenses (such as this Voigtlander 28) and filters usually E 0.75? But then older lenses were sometimes different, which might include bluesun's Canon LTM lenses. Many thanks to anyone who can verify/correct me!

One of the reviews:

Great well made step-up ring that allows for use of more common 39mm filters on lenses with 34mm filter threads like the Voigtlander Heliar 40mm f/2.8. The writing on the side of the filter is much more discreet than what is pictured in the product photo.

I just ordered one and will post if it's compatible. It will likely work.

In addition to step-up rings, there are a couple of other options:

1. Some (but not many) 34mm filters are available from Filterfind: https://filterfind.net/34mm_filters.html

2. Get a 34mm to Series 6 adapter (https://filterfind.net/series_6_A.html) and then you can use the large range of typically cheap Series 6 filters. I find 39mm filters to be among the most expensive around, especially yellow, red, green, blue filters for B&W photography; I guess it's the "Leica tax" since so many of the older Leica lenses came with that filter size.

The only trouble with using an adapter to Series 6 is that some of those adapters can cause vignetting on wider lenses when they're wide open or close to it. Since the 28mm Color-Skopar already vignettes wide open you probably don't want it to vignette even more. :-) I have a Canon 35/1.8 LTM with a rare 40mm filter thread size so I use a 40mm to Series 6 adapter. It does vignette a bit wide open but once you stop down just a little the vignetting goes away.

Just got the Heliopan 34-39mm step-up ring (from the provided link), and it fits perfectly on the Voigtlander 28mm f/2.8 Color-Skopar. 👍 Now, I can use my LEE85 filters with it.

Final Thoughts:

Cons:
  1. Specular highlights may show "cats-eye" shape.
  2. High vignetting.
  3. Slight dip in resolution at mid-field.
  4. Purple color towards the edges when shooting at large apertures

Has anyone shot this lens on colour film? Not a digital camera?
Iím wondering if the purple and vignetting is apparent on film.

I will give it a try and post some sample images.

That was my review This is the same step-up ring I posted about in the 40 2.8 thread:

Yep, I remember you posting this info very early on. The Heliopan is a great step ring for the CV 28/2.8.

I finally ordered the 28 Color-Skopar a few days ago, and it arrived late today. I only had a few seconds of light at sunset to fire off a shot at f/5.6 on the M11M.

I think it's going to be a bit like an f/2.8 version of the Leica Summaron reissue but without that 1m MFD limitation and the soft corners even when stopped down.

I ended up going with the Type II (black) for the closer MFD. Not sure whether I will pair this with the 75 1.9 for the similar matte black finish or the 90 APO, which shares the 28 CS's 39mm filter size.

Thanks Fred - very helpful! That vignette on the Voigtlander is pretty intense

Late to the party ... I also noticed that on many of them, the Voigt had a 1/2 stop advantage on exposure (i.e. 1/1000 vs. 1/1500, etc.), yet still had that intense vignetting.

Impressive tones and clarity. Congratulations on your new lens! It's one of my favorites, although I chose the Type I style to better match my camera.

Thanks

I still want the Type I, too, to pair with the 40 2.8! But I wonder if I need to get one in silver and one in black so I can tell them apart!!

That's not a bad idea!

It's interesting that Cosina gave Fuji shooters a similar option (28/40 equiv. lenses) in the form of their X-mount ultra compact lenses:
