Hi Dave,

It is always ON in all three of my custom settings and in my M (manual) settings.

HOWEVER, when I checked just now in response to reading your post to my horror discovered that my Custom Settings # 1, which I have set to 4K30 HQ format, had the IS option set to OFF. And I had saved these custom settings so that every time I started the camera and used C1 for video I was bound to get jittery footage. Oh boy, how dumb was that?

Good work Sherlock Dave!!!!

Agreed! Problem is they're just not doable on a mile-long hike into the bush or marsh, at least not for the older guys like me.

My guess is that IS and IBIS generally don't work properly on tripods and that the potential problems are such that Canon decided to design the RF100-500 to remove user discretion from the equation and just shuts off IS on its own which in turn shuts off IBIS. One of the guys on the other forum says he checked with Canon about this and they confirmed that this is a feature built in to the

IS has always been an issue on tripods. Older lenses advised turning it off manually when on a tripod. In the absence of movement, the IS system will create it. I've seen the IBIS in my R6 moving under 10x magnification while on a tripod. It was more of a random floating motion. This can be an issue for stills too at certain shutter speeds. Longer focal lengths just amplify any movement.

Rudy,
This is a confusing subject for most of us, me included. To confuse you further, after having some issues shooting Short Eared Owls last December, I turned mine ( digital IS) off when using 500mm or longer(which is almost always for me). At the time I had read a lot of info, and it seemed like many were reporting problems when videoing with long lenses with IS. I honestly don't know the best thing to do, but I have left digital off and most times leave IS on the lens ( so that leaves normal IBIS on). That said, I don't do a lot of panning on tripod, but have done some with OK results.
Still somewhat confused,
Dave
