I walked in with the intent to stay about 30 minutes, and left three hours later.

A calm Mourning Dove on her nest, set not five feet away from a footpath.

Beautiful! When it is very hot and humid, as it is now< my local conservatory provides me with some controlled atmosphere shoots!

PS There is a mansion on Maryland's Eastern Shore near Cambridge-Oxford that is guarded by peacocks. Warning signs are on the road as it passes by.

Nice set of pics. Looks like a great place to just hang and chill with your camera. We have a local Botanical Garden here that is similar.

We also have some wild peacocks that seem to hang near one park, but they are considered a nuisance, where our warning signs read something like: Danger, unattended vehicles may have moldings and windshield wipers removed and windows broken by local wildlife.

I guess the peacocks can be pretty destructive. I've never parked there long enough to find out but people complain a lot about them here. Heh.

Looks like a very productive three hours, if the peaceful calm I feel from your pictures are any indication of your experience.

Well seen, and photographed!

Thank you!
Peacocks are a nuisance in the neighborhoods near the Arboretum, too, but they are also the hosting City's official bird and untouchable as far as animal control is concerned. I grew up to the sound of their mating calls.

Thank you! I have been remiss in visiting the Arboretum but plan to visit regularly to practice my shooting.

I have acquaintances who live near the Arboretum and have resorted to putting large decals on their cars to try to prevent peacocks from attacking their own reflections on the body panels and leaving considerable scratches and dings. It hasn't really worked...

Thank you! I stayed until the humidity made me realize how dehydrated I was getting. I may well take a full hiking pack with water bottles next time!!
