DPP versions question and MacBook Pro compatibility

p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · DPP versions question and MacBook Pro compatibility

I haven't used DPP to process my photos in a while (since switching to LR), but from 2004 to around 2015 or 2016, all of my files were processed using DPP.

I'm just in the process of upgrading my MacBook pro to the new M2 MacBook and noticed that i no longer have two versions of DPP on my computer like i used to, I only have DPP professional 4 - I'm assuming that is the most recent version I don't even remember which version is which anymore, since I haven't used it any more. I used to have both installed at one time, not sure if the older one was no longer compatible with Mac operating systems. I"d appreciate if someone can confirm this is the case, as I can only see DPP professional 4 as the only available software now.

I had used the original version to process most of my photos, so the recipes of the edits were saved whenever i opened up DPP.
Does anyone know if those recipes on the RAW files processed would carry over to the new version of DPP
Does the DPP professional 4 process files going back to the original EOS 5D and 1D2N When Canon released the new version of DPP, I thought there were some limitations, but I don't remember. At the time it wasn't a big deal;, since I still had the old version of DPP as well.

I'd appreciate if someone can clarify on if only DPP 4 is available now (for Mac), and if it does retain edits made in the older version, and if it will process the files from the older digital cameras.

The edits are backwards compatible provided the camera is still in the data base. If you need older versions of DPP, try soliciting on other photography forums or look for the old disks which might have come with the camera. You might encounter some difficulties trying to install old versions on recent Mac OS.

Thanks! Is there a list which cameras are compatible? From what I remember the look and feel and even some of the functionality is different on the older version of DPP. So didn’t think the edits would be show up in the new version My data 3.5 TB data transfer is still running, will see if the recipes with the older version show up in the raw files.

You can download the instruction manual from the Canon support site for your camera. Yes, the 1D MkIIn and the 5D are compatible with the latest version of DPP4.

"EOS-1D Mark II N, EOS-1Ds Mark II, EOS-1D Mark II, EOS-1D, EOS-1Ds, EOS 5Ds/EOS 5Ds R, EOS 5D Mark IV, EOS 5D Mark III, EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 5D, "

I finished transferring my files to the new computer. I did try opening the files that I had previously provided in the original DPP program (3.x version), to see if the recipes would be recognized in DPP 4.

Unfortunately it looks like when they introduced DPP 4, it was completely a new program, DPP 4 didn’t recognize the edits made to of the RAW files I processed from 2005 to 2015 using DPP 3. I can edit the RAw files from the older Canon a camera, but unfortunately none of the edits made from my original processing are retained in DPP 4 😥

I think that’s another strike against continuing to use DPP. If they introduce a new program like they did in the switch from DPP 3.x to DPP4.x, once the older version is not supported, you can no longer see the edits made to RAW files from the older system.
