Printer not working after Ventura Update

I can no longer print using my Canon ipf8400 printer after updating from Monterey to Ventura 13.4. I've removed and reinstalled the driver multiple times and worked with Canon tech support. When I try to print, the queue pops up and says looking for printer and then just disappears after a couple of seconds. Any ideas on what's wrong or what to try?

Have you gone into Systems Settings, clicked on Printers & Scanners then clicked Add Printer, Scanner or Fax?

Mac OS many times will have it's own drivers for printers.

Try starting in Safe Mode and see if it prints. If using a Bluetooth keyboard you will need to plug in a wired keyboard to do this.

One last thought....Have you gone to Canon's website and downloaded the latest version that states it is compatible with OS X v13, correct?

It sounds like a connectivity issue, but could just be old drivers. I've had occasional issues with my Epson printer that has both Ethernet and USB ports (only 1 can be connected to a computer at a time), and switching the connection invariably solved the problem (had to go from Ethernet to USB, presumably because the Ethernet port died).

Did you install the current driver from Canon's site? It's dated last month:
https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/imageprograf-ipf8400

On the same page is a firmware update tool from after Ventura's release. Did you install that?

Do you have another computer you can use to test that the printer's still working? As a last resort, you could make it a shared printer from that computer, which would require that the computer it's connected to is on when you want to print to the shared printer.

I've downloaded and installed the new driver and firmware. I've also changed the ethernet cable running to the printer. The printer is installed and I see it in System Settings. However, when I go to print, the print queue opens, it looks for the printer, the progress bar moves a bit and then the window just closes and nothing happens. The setup worked fine until I updated to Ventura.

I've been able to print from another computer tot eh Canon printer, but that computer has Monterey. I've also been able to print from the Ventura computer to a different printer, an Epson.

The Canon tech tried to help, but ended up telling me to talk to Apple. Apple said that If I can print to another printer then problem is either with the Canon printer settings or the driver.

Have you tried deleting the printer and then adding it back? That fixed a similar problem I had when I was setting up a new MBP from settings copied from a Time Machine backup.

I assume you did the obvious and ensured that the Mac’s configured to look for the printer on the correct port (if the printer has USB and/or WiFi in addition to Ethernet connections).
