I bought a new 2 TB SSD LaCie ext HD to replace an aging LaCie 1 TB disc ext HD. I copied the master folder from the old HD to the new one. I have a new name form the EXT HD. When I open LR I can see previews but all the folders have "?" . Checking the "get info" confirms the data is there but LR Doesn't recognize it. I hope I made this clear enough for anyone to understand. Any ideas or solutions?

When you right-click on the ? do you get an option to 'Find missing folder'?

From the dialog that pops up you should then be able to go into your new external drive to get Lightroom to access the folders.

^ that is the reason.

Select the highest level folder name (the master folder name?) and it will find all folders and files below in 1 go. It can take a while even on an SSD.

I tried and when I see find missing photos I have a few files to choose from but not all the sub folders.

With your top level directory selected make sure "Show Photos in Subfolders" is turned on.

In the Library Module you'll find it under the Library pulldown
