Black Skimmers

It has been quite a while since I've visited the Black Skimmer colonies at Nickerson Beach, Long Island, NY. I was across the bay from there at the Marine Nature Study Area in Oceanside where I found a pair fishing in the calm streams and ponds.

Great looking shots Morris. The wingspan in #2 looks huge. Three and four are wonderful timing. Thanks for sharing these beautiful birds.

Yes Nickerson is amazing and I've been missing it since my injury and the smoke makes it harder to get outside. Another tough year yet this will pass and I'll have the joy of being there again

They do have a very wide wing span for there body size. Fast and maneuverable birds

Nice shooting Morris. The Skimmer colony I go to was wiped out in a storm. There's a chance some birds re-established themselves and I can get there in the next couple of weeks. We've had some messed up weather this year.

That's a shame. In my experience they will rebuild there nests and try again. The weather has been crazy here as well and there is also the smoke.
