Thanks Morris. Backgrounds are tough. The wsps, hornets, and bees pick the bushes they like and the foliage is dense. In order to get light on the bugs with a fast shutter I am using four Nikon SB910 flashes set at 1/128 power for a shutter speed of about 1/32,000 second (via a high speed shutter.) The backgrounds are indeed busy and contrasty.
One suggestion was to put some white board around and try diffusing the light. I may give that a try but it would be hit/miss since the area is so small.
Any suggestions apprecuated.
A dark solid color or black might look good for a background
