Incredible close up work Bob. You have been working on this for a long time and are very close to perfect. The last trick is to get better backgrounds. What you have achieved is quite impressive

Thanks Morris. Backgrounds are tough. The wsps, hornets, and bees pick the bushes they like and the foliage is dense. In order to get light on the bugs with a fast shutter I am using four Nikon SB910 flashes set at 1/128 power for a shutter speed of about 1/32,000 second (via a high speed shutter.) The backgrounds are indeed busy and contrasty.
One suggestion was to put some white board around and try diffusing the light. I may give that a try but it would be hit/miss since the area is so small.
Any suggestions apprecuated.

A dark solid color or black might look good for a background

I will explore color grading on the background. An issue is the translucent wings - the foliage can be seen through the wings.
