Does the A6700 change your thoughts on a future A7Cii?

The A6700, I think, exceeded some of our expectations. I was thinking more like just a smaller, aps-c A7iv. I think it's more than that.

For the A7C, I'd thought maybe shoehorning the A7iv into the existing smaller body, minor iterative changes. If nothing else, I see the new grip and dial now, too, with the processor, af, menu upgrades. I don't know that 2 card slots will fit, there's already a lot squeezed in there.

(Given the way Sony got from A6000 to A6700, it doesn't mean there isn't an A6800 or A6900 still lurking out there, either.)

Yes, we're largely in the era of iterative changes (sensor, processors, firmware, body shape, etc), which is fine especially if those small changes add up to something that benefits you. Personally I'm not going to be remotely interested in the A7Cii unless it gets a huge upgrade to the EVF -- the 6700's 2.3M-dot EVF is a disappointment, but perhaps not many people use the EVFs on those tiny bodies. I'd want at least a 5M-dot EVF, but I suspect it'll end up with the A7iv's 3.7M resolution.

Well if your already packing a A9,A1, A7 R in any flavor the need may diminish with a A7C
My issue was size still to big and the EVF just sucks on the A7c so I turned away from it but this is smaller and has some good feature sets that I need and maybe the better travel cam I’m after.

The twin command dials is the big thing for me. If the A7CII doesn't include twin dials, that's IMO a huge slap in the face from Sony. Other than that, none of my wish list for an A7C sequel is present in the A6700. Primary wants would be a better EVF (at least on par with A7RIII) and the A7RV IS system. Maybe a small jump in resolution would be nice (33 MP sensor from A7IV) but other than that, I have generally enjoyed my A7C.

I see it as confirmation that we're not getting dual slots or a better EVF. Not a deal breaker for me personally - I would still see value in an A7CII that has the A7IV sensor, front dial, AF upgrades, and new menu system.

I would expect that the A7CII would have at least the improved autofocus and ergonomics--grip, form, front control wheel--that the a6700 has. I would think the mpix will move up to the range of the A7iV--so 32-34 mpix. The frame rate will remain slow. The readout speed will remain slow. There should be enhancements to the DR and the IBIS as well as to low light sensitivity. AI will feature prominently in the cameras capabilities and improvements. It will be less of a stills/video hybrid than the a6700, more stills centric. A better LCD and EVF.

I think it will be a very desirable camera but still won't address the need for a stacked sensor in a small body. The Fuji X-H2S is only smaller bodied stack sensor camera out there now. It is aps-c, but it definitely has appeal to me. I am just reluctant to start a new line of lenses in my storage cabinet and to carry with me.

For me this shows me my dream of having a full frame sensor in a NEX5 or even 7 body is still a faraway pipedream. A7C size wise is/was 2 categories off those dimensions, which I only realised when I got the A7III as it was slightly heavier and bigger in practice with my tiny analog lenses than I wished it was and that was 5 years ago...

I still have my now 12 year (?) old NEX5R and even paired with modern lenses like the Sigma 35/45I or samyang 35 2.8 (28 grams pancake) it feels like it has good enough IQ while practically being a 10mm thin sheet databack with a big ass lens attached to it.

I think Sony could make an amazing A7CII with a modern A7S 1 equivalent sensor with digital IS in a NEX7 like body. 1440p+ smartphone flagship screen (optional hotshoe EVF), 16mp max, crazy low light perf + all the modern AI enhancing feats, with some overheat risk after 10min to reduce size/weight. I wouldn't be surprised if some smartphones will reach that level in 2 years minus the exchangeable lens feature.

I guess that would depend on what the A7C Ver 2 offers. Sadly there wasn't anything on the A6700 specs that excited me. Sub par EVF and Display panel. No real improvement in IBIS either. At a price point that is getting closer FF pricing. I do like the better eronomics the A6700 offers though.

On the flip side. I'm wondering if the A6700 is enough to change some users thoughts on the A7C line all together. Perhaps preferring the A6700 and just sticking with APSC for "Sony compact."

10-20mm G, 16-50mm 2.8 and 70-350mm G is a really solid setup. Sigma 1.4's if you need to scratch the SDOF itch.

I think it depends on where one is coming from. If in aps-c now, the A7C probably isn't what one might need if moving to ff. If in ff, the A7C isn't the smallest, lightest nor least expensive if moving the other way.

Reading this while wider awake, it's not clear. I think if one is well into aps-c, and wants to move to ff, it's perhaps for faster and/or larger lenses, or for bodies with higher performance, the A7C doesn't add too much, either in grip size or balance, nor performance like the A9s or resolution like the A7Rs. Or, if desiring a smaller and more compact experience from FF, the A7C is nice but stiil, one could go smaller if considering the aps-c lens options.

Well now that I’ve seen the A6700 I know what I want to at least see in the A7C II since I own the version one already. It’s my travel camera.
I want,
- improved grip
- AI auto focus
- front dial
- 33 Mpixel sensor from A7IV
- new dial for Stiils/Video/S&Q
- Programmable Exposure Compensation dial
- new menus with enhanced touch screen functionality
- better EVF and higher quality rear lcd but I know that’s not coming

It won’t get dual card slots either but you can always hope since I believe it’s in the FX30.
I do want it to stay small since I already have the bigger A7R V and A1 with these features.

I Have had several nex cameras and A7III also a bunch of Canon DSLRs and now R5 and R7.
I allways liked the non sidehinged screen on the sonys for shooting near the ground without laying down.
I'm not a fan of the sidehinged screen on Canon or the one on A6700 it's in the way of my arm when holding the lens when shooting low.
I'm looking for a smaller sized camera that will do 4k60p oversampled so A7C was ruled out
So A6700 caught my eye but....

+- on A6700

+ 4k60p oversampled from 6k
+ 10-bit 4:2:2 video
+ many lenses for APS-C and allow third-party
+ Save your camera settings to SD card (this is a really good feature I have that on my R5 and love it)
+ 14 bit raw files even when using ES

- 1/4000 shutterspeed in mechanical
- slow sensor readout speed ... about 25ms in photomode
- tiny viewfinder (i'm using glasses)
- sidehinged LCD

the viewfinderand the sidehinged LCD bothers me most.

I was mulling over the A6700 but when I saw an A7c here with 1500 SC for a little over a grand, it changed my mind. I will give it a try for that.

👍 These features will be nice.

Now that we know a6700 is based on a7C body, we can safely assume how a7C will look and may share a6700 VF, front dial and all AI features (which means XR processor also).

I'm not saying it can't happen, but the FX30 is a substantially larger camera than the a7c, and they didn't have to make room for an EVF, so I wouldn't get my hopes up on dual slots.

It will be the cheapest current full frame camera from Sony, so don't get your hopes up. I think it will be the same 33 MP sensor from A7IV with new AI AF changes from A7RV and A6700. That's about it.

the a7C was the last one with the old menus so that's a given, and EVF/LCD will be the same, I hope we get the hybrid slot for CFexA compatibility, and the a7rV LCD mechanism, it would take a couple of mm at most and would greatly improve the shooting experience.
