Tamron 35-150mm, great performance.
Tamron 50-400, did not work 😒
Tamron 28-200 works fine.

Do you find that mounting the Pro adapter onto the Z8 takes some force? Or is it easy for you?

Sad about 50-400 as I have 150-500 in Emount so I am hoping that it does have the same issue.

Not necessarily. 50-400 is a relatively new lens.

I have to take my comment back. I tried the 50-400 with megadap again, and wdyk, it works! It is not perfect and will be slower to acquire initial focus, but for static or slow moving subjects, no problem. There is some VR weirdness that image in VF seems jumpy, but it works fine.

I also (re)acquired Tamron 150-500 E mount and it works well too. (Though the Z mount version is available and not expensive). I think that the 150-500 is a much better option then Nikon 100-400 for price and reach.

So to recap, the following lenses work fine.

Tamron 150-500mm, very good performance (can track BIF)
Tamron 35-150mm, great performance.
Tamron 50-400, works fine
Tamron 28-200 works fine.

You can also add the following lenses to the list. All work great with Z8 and Pro adapter.

- Sony 20-70 F4 (even the aperture ring works. Which I wasn't expecting)
- Samyang 50/1.4 II
- Sigma 105/1.4 Art

I just got my Z8 and Megadap. This is really quite remarkable! So far I have tried Tamron 35-150, Sony 70-200 GM2 w/ and w/o 2x TC, 85 1.4 GM, and 400 GM and they all work perfectly, even in low light. Since I am not planning on buying a lot of Z mount lenses since I have EVERYTHING in Sony, I may buy a second Megadap as a backup. The only Z mount lens I have so far is the 24-120. I will likely add the 100-400 and maybe the 600 6.3 or maybe just the 400 4.5 and I may switch out the Tamron 35-150 to a Z-mount version. I may sell the 200-600 Sony. Really spectacular what they have accomplished. I can't wait to try it out in real shooting situations instead of taking pictures of random things in my office.

I will test out the rest of my Sony lenses over the next few weeks and report back. This includes:
14 GM
20 G
24 GM
35 GM
50 1.2 GM
100 STF GM
135 GM
16-35 GM1
24-70 GM2
200-600

I have been using this adapter on my z8 and have been really impressed so far. The lenses feel native, unlike my experience with adapting Nikon F lenses to Sony E.

I just shot a basketball game with a z8 and GM2. AF was not *quite* as good as th A1 but it was very good. Plenty of nice sharp shots. Colors were much better than A1 SOC. Felt like a native lens. And I just like the way this camera did the ergonomics.

I have been using the Megadap adapter with Z9 for a couple of years. I have the following Sony mount lenses: 14 GM, 200-600, & 35-150. When the combo is working, it's great. But I have kept getting frozen with 200-600 & 35-150.

I also use Canon lenses with Z9 (of course with a different adapter), I have never had any issue. Only nit with this adapter is its size, as compared with the Megadap adapter.

I hope Megadap will eventually fix the frozen issue.

Make sure your adapter firmware us up to date. I haven't had anything freeze up with the 200-600 on a Z8. (Granted I am also using the newest version of the physical adapter)

I always use the latest F/W for lenses and adapter. I have found the freezing issue with almost every version of the adapter and on both 200-600 & 35-150, just matter of how frequent it happens.

Yes, I have the old adapter.

It seems like the freezing happens after the Z8 goes into “standby” low power mode and then wakes back up. If I remember to turn it off it doesn’t happen. If it does happen, I just have to take the adapter/lens off and remount it.

I'll have the new Pro version on the way in another day. I plan on updating the firmware when it arrives as the new firmware was just released early January. I'm hoping there are NO freezes when used with a new 200-600G I'm using on a Sony body as well. it seems the majority of folks using the newer one with most Sony lenses have no issues from all I'm seeing. Here's to hoping it nails focus pretty quick.

I have used original version for almost couple of years and now the pro version. Almost never had freezing issue. While it works well most part, the continuous AF is not great. It's ok for slow moving subjects like people portraits, not for birds. However I don't have the latest FW. Will try soon

When changing lenses to, for instance to a native Z lens, do you all :
1. Turnoff cam
2. Remove the lens
3. Remove the adapter
4. Put on other lens.
5. Turn on cam

Or. You just turn off cam and change the lens with adapter attached?? I am interested in SONY GM 20/1.8,

Thank you in advance.

I turn the camera off, then remove the lens with the adapter attached, then put on other lens, then turn on the camera. I find it fairly hard to remove the lens from the adapter and prefer to do that when the adapter isn't attached to the camera. With other thicker adapters I often follow the steps you describe, but this adapter is so thin and I have big hands and fat fingers so I don't try to remove the lens from the adapter when it is on the camera.

My adapter has been permanently attached to Samyang 50/1.4 II (as I sold al other Sony lenses). So I never take off the adapter. But do make sure to turn off the camera before changing lens.

For what it's worth, I've had issues with even the FTZ and F lenses if I put the adapter on by itself, and then put the lens on.

I've standardized on just putting the entire thing on at once.

I do the same with FTZ. With Megadap, I recall seeing from Megadap that you need to do separately, which is cumbersome and less efficient while shooting. Hopefully, just change the whole thing works..
