The a7iii/a7Riii bodies are the first Sonys that I considered fully functional and versatile. I had owned many models prior to those. In the iii series, you get very good AF, little noise, and a great battery life. They are more than adequately customizable for most purposes, and the resolution is the sweet spot.

The higher resolution cameras trade megapixels for diffraction, which if shooting wide open to f/5.6 is not a big deal, but it increasingly becomes a factor above that. I see it for landscape work on my a1, and there are days when I miss the lower res a7Riii for that subject matter.

I finally picked up a used A7rIII after one of my A7rII's started having some problems. I'm liking the battery improvements and the fact that eye AF doesn't require an extra button press, but really other than that, I can't say that I've regretted staying with my rII's for the past eight years.

Recently been tempted to buy an A7CR. However, my A7RIII works so well. It’s even great for medium action photos like street stuff with pin-sharp focus. Please GAS go away. I want the 35 GM instead and don’t have storage space or processing power for the monster files on my trust 2017 MBP that refuses to crap out 🥲

I am in a similar position with my A7rIII, except I have a new M2 Mac Studio and some new 4TB SSDs Anyway, A7rIII is frustrating camera because it is so good that it is difficult to make up good reasons to buy a new high rez body.

In Europe A7cr is also comparably more expensive than in US. I guess they have too many A7rIV in stock and selling (with help of a cassock) is a priority right now.

I had an R2 system, lenses, filters, etc. My son needed it more than I.
I replaced it with a preowned R3....very happy, although still gathering lenses.
Battery life alone; as others have noted, it is not particularly proficient at sports or fast moving action, but proficient enough for me.
