I used to freak out getting close to bee's as a kid...then in my late teens I drifted into a wasp nest hanging over the banks of crystal river once, banged my head right into the large coconut size nest... threw my rod into the boat and jumped into the water, stayed under the ice cold water holding my breath as I pulled wasps off my neck and ears still stinging me over and over. I finally swam several yards down stream and got the nerve to pop my head up. My huge fishing buddy, quite a large target, was howling with laughter as they ignored him and didnt sting him once. Took a bunch of benadryl and Tylenol and was still miserable for a day or two. I can laugh about it now... but the bottom line is I enjoy photographing bees and wasps up close now, and have made my peace with it, though I still get a little jumpy when one buzzes my ears, heh.
