Main problem with Chinese products is a lot of the times especially SD cards they are not real but stamped with SanDisk or Lexar and others in them. That is the issue I have run into in the past. Not a political or anything else comment just what I have seen over the years. I’m very sensitive about cards. For Pros your jobs are sitting on them.

you're one of those types of chinese

used the pergear CF-B for a long time, always reliable. Sony by default, is slightly less reliable, even sony cam + sony card, I can get a lockup writing video from time to time. Luckily never a crucial moment, but when it locks while writing, you're screwed and lose the files.

I work in electronics, I agree that a lot of Chinese made electronics used to have a lot of QC issues years ago but things have improved now. Even though a lot of electronic products may be designed in other countries a huge amount of the manufacturing is in China

I think Angelbird is Austrian, but I assume the actual flash cards are manufactured in China. I think Pergear is a Chinese company.

Thank you. End of the day no one can escape Chinese manufacturing. Anyway looks like pergear cards has no complaints so far. I can get 520gb cards for $287 (free shipping) from their site. Tempted!

Just reporting in that after almost 3 months using their Pergear 520 I’ve had no issues. Card has been flawless. Just wish this card had been available a year earlier when I wasted money on the overpriced Prograde cards.

Sony get hot too. I didn't expect that. But it's not as bad as Prograde. I might try Lexar. Some people commented it doesn't heat up the media.

I normally like his reviews, but in this case it looks like he is just quoting mfg specs instead of actual testing in a camera.

All three readers I tried (Prograde, Sony and Lexar) make the card hot after working files for few minutes. May be Prograde little worse than rest. Not sure. Hard to believe Agelbird doesn't have this issue. Until someone who tried multiple readers confirm this, I will keep using Prograde.

FWIW, the Angelbird reader is faster than my Lexar reader (using Lexar cards).

why are you concerned that they get a little hot? I think every CF type A card that I have had gets a bit warm but that has been a non issue for me. I owned Sony first. Then Prograde. Now I own 2 Lexar and 2 Angelbirds and all work flawlessly despite a bit of heat. I would not hesitate to get the angelbirds. I got them day one when they came out and could not be happier with their performance. I have used them in the Sony and now the Angelbird reader.

You mean except for the part where he describes how he actually measured the download speeds...?

Good question. Because GMphotography (Sorry , I don't know the gentleman's name) mentioned above, this thing came to my mind. My card get really hot after working with it for few minutes. I use prograde card and reader. From the discussions it looks like Angelbird reader doesn't have this issue. I got the wrong(?) impression that it's a problem with just prograde reader. I also noticed some user reviews mentioned this about Prograde reader. I thought the heat can damage th card. That's why I tried other readers.

If you care about computer download speeds then he did test that.

If you care about in camera performance then it doesn’t look like he tested. He says Pergear is half as fast but Pergear is quoting a sustained write speed whereas the other two are reporting max speed. Pergear lists their max speed as 900 which is actually faster than the others.

To be fair I haven’t tested Sony or Angelbird but in my testing between Prograde and Pergear they cleared a full 30FpS A1 buffer in the exact same time. I doubt the o5her two cards are any different. His conclusion about Perfear not being suitable for high frame rate A1 is BS FUD.

He measured download speeds from a reader into his computer. I have some doubts if the read speeds were actually a true measure of the card limitations. I did not see any actual measurements of in camera speeds just a quote of the mfg specs. If your saying I missed the in camera testing then I will need to read the article again.
