Thanks for sharing, Fred! It's extremely useful discovery that B+W 39mm and 43mm filter have same glass. I have few B+W Nano filters with "Clear" coating, and "UV" coating. Knowing the glass diameter is same, now I can switch it into other diameter frame when needed! : )

Love the minimalistic look with 3D printed adapter, great job done! As Gabe13 mentioned - it's hard to say filter is there.

BTW, I personally don't use screw in cap when lens is on camera (to not loose the moment when unscrewing cap), but for extra protection when lens is in jacket pocket it's

Thanks, Yuri. This was my first 3D project, and I appreciate your helpful design tips!

Yes, the small hood cap attaches normally when using the built-in UV filter.

Really cool, thanks for posting the details!

If I had B+W filters or could see how to remove the Marumi glass I'd go for it, but I think I'll stick to just using the Exus Solid protector inbetween the lens and hood. Not as elegant of course but it's still a tiny setup and doesn't add enough vignetting for me to really notice, even with the 18mm which I've also since picked up!

Really grateful that these two pancakes just happened to come out in pretty much the focal lengths I wanted shortly before I finally bought into Fujifilm. I wasn't planning on them when I bought the camera at all but I'm enjoying the manual experience and they feel worth the tradeoff of losing weather resistance vs. the other options I was originally thinking of. I think I'm a Voigtlander fan now.

The B+W filters can be tricky to open to retrieve the glass. Here's how I did it: I used small pieces of "Gorilla Mounting Putty" at four points around the outer area of the filter, placed it face down on a surface, and then rotated the back of the filter frame. After a few tries, the back unscrewed from the front, allowing me to remove the glass. You could use a different filter brand (39mm) with holes for a spanner wrench, but I've only tried this method with the B+W filters.

Excellent comparison Fred! Would you happen to have any side by side shots of both 27mm lenses to show how the out of focus areas compare, f2 vs f2.8 and also at similar aperture?

Yes I have both lenses. Do you mean pictures of the lens barrel or image comparison from both lenses?

Hi Fred, thanks for the response. I'm interested in pictures made using these lenses to demonstrate the difference between amount of background blur between both lenses at their maximum aperture and to compare the bokeh at the same aperture.

I will post rendering differences from these two lenses once I am back from a trip.

Hi Fred, have you had any chance to compare the rendering aspect of the lenses? Looking forward to your opinion!
