I sold my Sony 200-600 a few weeks ago and was feeling seller's remorse.
Hopefully it'll be fixed by a z 200-600
There's discussion on other forums about whether Tamron makes the Sony 200-600 or not.
Guess it's just a rumor and possibly wrong?
NR also says it could be a 180-600 .. if so, it's likely a new Nikon-designed/built lens.
Most of the current production of Sony 200-600 is from Vietnam, rumored to be from a Tamron factory. However, the earlier production is from China in Sony's own factory. Sony is moving a lot of production out of China. And with internal zoom which is a first, this lens is designed by Sony.
Nikon's F mount 200-500 is very similar to Tamron's 150-600. Focal range can be artificially limited. It's very possible that lens is a license/derivation from Tamron's version. Now Tamron's designs are usually quite good, so this is just an academic exercise in trying to find out the design house.
This new Z mount lens, from the picture, it's difficult to say which is the focus ring and whether it's internal zoom. Since Nikon doesn't want to put an S badge on it, and if it has internal zoom, then it's possibly also designed by Tamron. Otherwise, I can't see Nikon not putting S badge on a lens of its own design with this caliber.
