Thank you for this wonderful thread, the images here are simply amazing.

I discovered this one after searching for 'infrared' as I want to revive my IR camera again after a lapse of a few years.

I am looking for some help and advice in my situation. I am primarily a Wildlife photographer and I had a Sony a7r3 converted to IR by Kolari for mainly B&W imaging with some IR thrown in. I therefore have a full-spectrum camera now and for pure IR work I use the 850nm filter on the front of the lens.

I've searched extensively but am still not fully satisfied that I know how to use the camera and its capabilities to the fullest.

Basically I am looking to get the best B&W images possible since that is my style. With my regular camera, I normally convert all my images using LR and sometimes PS for a mild sepia toning effect. My understanding has been that an IR converted camera can actually give you better B&W results than a 'normal' camera.

I am not that interested in the IR look with bright foliage although that is very pleasing if the majority of the subject matter is foliage and the animal is smaller in the frame, e.g. an elephant or giraffe standing under a balanite tree. So for compositions other than that, i.e. portrait shots or group shots of animals (not birds), how would you recommend I process the shots taken with a full-spectrum converted camera but without any filter in front.

I tried the dng route suggested by Robert ?Frasier but am not too happy with it. Is there something I am doing wrong? Is it really worth getting Capture One to adjust the WB? Does Exposure 7 allow that degree of WB adjustment?

Lots of questions, but thank you all in advance.

I always shoot in RAW with my 850nm converted camera, this will give you the best flexibility to edit your files. I use Camera RAW to edit my files (Photoshop), it takes some time to understand how every software works on IR images, my suggestion is to turn them to B&W from Camera Raw, it will be easier to manage it.

I like to shoot 590nm and convert using SilverEfexPro2. I have been experimenting with using B&W film presets in CaptureOne as well.

Hi,

I bought a used D7000 IR converted (720nm I believe). I've been putting off IR for years because I was scared of the learning curve. Body arrived yesterday. I took a few shots and processed them with a much shorter learning curve than I expected. Will more experience help? Absolutely, but getting something usable within a day is pretty satisfying. So if you've been scared to jump into IR, go for it!

I took the first two pictures and processed those in Lightroom. Not very spectacular, it was very cloudy, drizzling actually, but it's a first try at shooting and processing IR.

The last shot is today, partly sunny, processed via Sliver Efex Pro 2 (free software), the preset called "024 Full Contrast and Structure". with minimal tweaking of sliders

I can see I need to clean the sensor.

First time using IR film (SFX200, which I understand is not quite IR). These were taken with an XPAN with an R72 filter on it. Pretty cool "black sky" effect and very light foliage.

Ha! I’ve had it for over a year, but every time I see it around the house, my heart goes a flutter.

I tried an AF lens on the 665nm converted 5Dmk2, and it appears it is by sheer luck perfectly calibrated to the camera. I think I will leave it on the body for a bit.

Saw an IR Nikon D810 on MPB and decided to give it a try. Not knowing what conversion was done, when I got it I discovered it was full spectrum. Initially I was happy but then I decided I really wanted something converted to a spectrum. Plus I honestly did not care for the shooting experience of a DSLR versus mirrorless. I mean it was ok, I could get perfectly fine images with my 24-120mm lens and 70-300mm lens (through the viewfinder) but it wasn't as fun as shooting normal color with a DSLR (for me).

I stumbled upon someone online using a Hoya IR72 filter on a Leica 246 Monochrom to produce some IR photographs. Has anyone ran into that before?

I believe I have seen that as well.
