p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Mountain Goats - Kootenay National Park

On Thursday I drove to my usual goat haunt and took some pictures of what I could find.

The mountain goats are just starting to change coats. There were no babies in this bunch. I will have to go back out. I think this is just the guys hanging out.

Its funny to watch these guys. They are cranky. They are constantly threatening to ram their buddy. Even when they are on the edge of a cliff. There must be high mortality just from accidentally falling from a cranky older friend. But yet they hang out together and go everywhere together.

Comments and feedback are appreciated. Scott

Great set Scott, have to admire how they are able to manuver on different pitch angles.

Glad you like the set. They are amazing - cranky, sure footed, confident - on the cliffs. No fear. But they watch out for other ready to push them off a cliff. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Great sequence and story Scott. Cranky should not get in the way of a good friendship and common interest.

Chuck Eklund: Glad you like the sequence and story. The next time I am out taking pictures with a buddy and I attempt to push him off the cliff, I will just say that's what friends accept Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

louie champan: Glad you like the images. Sometimes other people with short lens are helpful. They were near the road in an unfavourable composition, and the short lens people (iPhone) came and scared them up the hill, where the composition was much better and it caused the short lens people to go away. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

sum1sgrampa: Glad you like 1. It is my favourite of the series as well. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Nice set of images Scott. Interesting creatures, I had the opportunity a good number of years ago to see them in Jasper Natl park but they were up very high. You got some great shots.

Very nice set. The goats in #8 and #9 have serious cojones. I can't imaging going down (or up) that without ropes, and they don't even have high traction rubber soled footwear.

Dave_E: Glad you like the images. The best two spots to see them are 'goat and glacier" pull out at Jasper and this spot near animal lick between Castle Junction and Radium. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

vbnut: Glad you like the set. The split hooves give them great traction. But they are not afraid of heights. And as I said, they are grumpy enough to push their buddy off a cliff. They have to watch out to not turn their back. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Superb series of images.
Certainly wish I lived near enough to see some.
Next vacation maybe.

deke4774: Glad you like the images. Mountain goat are more difficult than grizzlies and moose. They only come down at certain specific spots and their coats start getting scraggly starting now. But they are fun to watch. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Glad you like the images. The challenge with mountain goats if finding them. They are always fun to watch and photograph. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Glad you like set. It's amazing that they are so surefooted and not afraid of heights. It's because of short legs and 3 piece hooves. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
