Does anyone know where I might find a drop in solar filter for the Sony 600mm F/4 lens?

Are you talking about something to shoot an eclipse? If so I would go with something that slips over the end. The light will be fairly concentrated at the drop in filter location and will dissipate a lot of heat. Also for a total eclipse you want to be able to quickly remove the filter during totality . You can get sheets of eclipse film and make something.

First photo. A dropin filter is placed behind that damage.
Coincidently, that's a 600 f4. Canon, but Sony will burn and melt the same, I'm sure.
So I agree with tschopp.

They used to have solar filters to put on the telescope eyepiece. Trouble is, the glass could explode, right next to your eye, due to the heat.

Probably similar to the lenses and cameras getting damaged.

A few good sites for eclipse photography. The solar eclipse timer app is a must have. It uses GPS to get your position and will give you a countdown for critical events during the eclipse at your location accurate to the second. The film is optically better than glass filters for this. Practice is key as well, I would use the different custom settings to save settings for partial, diamond ring, and wide dynamic range bracketing during totality. Video for realistic practice and some websites:
