That's quite disappointing. The M11 has a max PDR of 11.82 at ISO64, which is just lovely. Big DR at base ISO is such a boon in certain circumstances--like an outdoor wedding I shot this summer. PDR of 11.82 (I think) is the best I've seen for a FF as measured by P2P. I wonder what happened on the Q3? And even until ISO400, I'd rather have the m11.

I guess if we want to spin it positively, it's better than the Q2...

From all the numbers I have seen the M11 has the highest DR available in a FF sensor. It is an amazing camera, and Leica should get credit for the achievement. Now compound that with the amazing M glass and I don't think anything short of MF can touch it.

Still the Q3 is an exceptionally high performing fixed lens point and shoot style camera that should be judged as such. I don't think any other camera of that type matches the Q3 in sensor, or glass. Again, an amazing achievement by Leica.

We are blessed to be able to shoot with this exceptional equipment. Such a joy.

Man- I have to disagree that this is disappointing here man-

This is like rating on Porsche on how much towing capacity it has only-

The Q3 has an almost silent leaf shutter, built in 1.7 Summilux lens, image stabilization, weather sealing, phase detect AF etc etc etc etc.

A small dip in over Max PDR of less than 10% is nothing IMO-

Itís also 3K cheaper -

But none of that has to do with the sensor. Cross comparing features like that isnít apple to apples. Leica obviously has the access and expertise for a better sensor performance.

And Sony released their a7rIv four years ago with for even 3k less or so than the Q3. I donít see myself owning a q3, despite enjoying the q2, but that difference in PDR can be felt in real world shooting. Itís not like the Q3 is remoeltey cheap.

Just my thinking.

Fair enough- but the overall design of the fixed lens does have to account for sensor thickness etc during the design. So some compromises had to be made- Not knowledgeable enough to know what those are but I am sure its of some signficance. So I get your sensor only coversation but this is a fixed lens camera not a traditional M-

I hear you though-

I did buy a Q3- Itís an amazing little camera- Been really happy with what I am getting from it so far. They have fixed everything I disliked from the Q2- Mainly Eye AF and ports to charge/transfer photos from.

I am no expert either, but my understanding, and from the RX1 and Fuji x100 like, there seems to be no constraints with getting the same IQ (or extremely similar) if you use the same sensor. Iím sure the lens formula or sensor glass might need to be tweaked slightly, but I really donít think itís much of an issue.

Rad you got the Q3. I hear conflicting things about that AF on the Q3. To be honest, I didnít find the auto focus to be great but never really an issue on the Q2. I am sure the Q3 would be more than sufficient for me. Having said that, for my usages, I am pretty simple. If I want really crazy auto focus, I use a Sony camera. Horses for courses.

Iíd like to buy one, but even used those things spendyólike most Leica stuff. I am sure Iíd love it though.
