I watched reviews of both the Heipi and Ulanzi, I think I prefer the quick release feature of the Ulanzi.
LY-284C seems to no longer be sold. But they have the LO-284C, similar in price/size and weight (a bit heavier though at 3.59 lb with the ball head , vs 2.4 lb for the Ulanzi). I can't see any advantage, other than the 20% discount.
LY-284C is not released yet, but soon. LY is the Y-shaped column series like the RRS Ascend. They have a couple of things not on the RRS:
- Carbon Fiber center column (but then you need a separate shorter column)
- 42-degree angle for high wind situation (4 different angles vs. 3 typical angles)
Here is a quick rundown of different Leofoto series:
LY - Like the RRS Ascend series but with a couple of different things
LS - No center column, used to be the most compact in terms of folded diameter. A good balance for packed size, weight, and height. Like the RRS TFC
LS Pro line - coming out soon with a 10cm taller height (longer folded length though), sand and waterproof with corrosion resistance leg locks, a 4-angle setting, and a similar CF pattern to the RRS. Could probably be the best option for many.
LS CEX - built-in leveling base
LQ - The most versatile of the compact series with the apex design allowing quick swaps of different top plates.
LG - Like the LQ but with two "fancy" finishes and the sand and waterproof with corrosion resistance leg locks
LO - Strange swivel-able center column
LP/LA - like the LS but with sand and waterproof with corrosion resistance leg locks and colorful CF Legs
LN - Like the Gitzo Systematic with a big, bulky apex
LX - Like the Gitzo Traveler with 180-degree leg folding
