To refresh, here is the patent: https://www.canonrumors.com/patent-a-zoom-teleconverter-1-0x-1-5x-2-0x/
Looks like 4 elements with two fixed and two move to change the magnification.
Looking at the RF 1.4x and 2x as well as the converter part in the RF800 and RF1200 with their rather complex lens trains, I doubt that that patent is the correct one. There will most certainly be more complex lens trains in the RF1-2x.
As for bringing 100-300mm to the 100-500, I highly doubt it. The new 100-300 and 200-500 are fully compatible with the RF 1.4x and 2x. They have room for that protruding front part, which stops the 100-500 from zooming back to the wide end.
I played with converters back in the day with my first tele lens, the not so mighty Universar 400/6.3. The back part could be removed so converters could be placed forward closer to the front lenses, empty toilet paper rolls as important parts of my design. This increased the magnification significantly. My problem in the setup was that it moved the plane of sharp focus backwards, if I recall it correctly (about 40 years).
As the physics still is the same, my after all rather ignorant guess is that the converter will be like that patent, but with far higher optical complexity. It will have a front part that moves into the main lens for greater magnification, while a back part will keep the plane of sharp focus at the correct place.
To increase the complexity and possibly size, price for sure, just to satisfy the 100-500 users? No, I doubt that. We would not be pleased with a price higher than the lens itself.
