Awesome! Can you quickly shoot a dollar bill with the two combinations to share?

Geez, give it a rest. You want someone to take test photos of a dollar bill on which to base your decision

The Oly 150-400 is simply the best all-around wildlife lens OM has, and IMO is the best all-around wildlife lens period.

And I don’t even own that lens, but I don’t take test photos of dollar bills either.

Not according to this review: https://youtu.be/N2C8Li8ZepU

However, I question the results of the sharpness test. I also don't see the chromatic aberration cited in the video. After a month of use, I'm surprised with the low number and quality of photos presented in the video.

I saw that too. Perhaps he just has a bad copy, who knows. Due to the lack of actual side by side testing we've seen from our community here so far, his video is the only one that has revealed their comparative performance.

This is a call to 150-400 and 300/4 owners out there, let's prove him wrong!

Did not care much of the reviewer. He was fixed on the price and he mentioned it whenever he could. He does not recommend it to anyone. He just does not get it that it is a cheap price for what the lens is and what it can do. Worth the money for me! He even thinks the 300mm f/4 is over priced. He is not a fan of Micro Four Thirds and it shows in the review and gives you the impression it is a waste of money.

He could have gotten a bad copy or just can't handle the lens to get good results. Shooting conditions and high mm lengths can make any image from any camera soft.

I'll pass on this review.

There went 10 minutes of my life I'll never get back.....

I didn't buy to get a sharper lens in 150-400 compared to the 300f4 that I already have .. but to have the ability to ZOOM
I have compared some pictures and I must say that the difference is really really minimal even if you pixel peep and I would probably like to say that I have a very good and sharp ex of 300 f4 pro, if there are now good and bad ex? And I would also say that I got a good and sharp ex also with my 150-400 I'm satisfied

I would be very surprised if it turned out that the 150-400 was sharper than the 300 f4 at open aperture at 300mm , here a prime should have an advantage over a zoom ?

As said here, it is very uninteresting to me which one is sharper (if there is no big difference, which is absolutely not the case with my ex)
and I just bought for what I wrote above.. the brightness at 400mm vs 420mm with mc 14 on 300 f4 That extra 2/3s light stop above 300+mc is nice to have then being able to just hit with a middle finger on Tc and you have 500mm f5.6 and this with a closest focus of 1.3m which in itself is something incredible if you like macro and semimacro pictures like me
so 1000mm and f5.6 on fx and having the closest focus limit at 1.3m is absolutely incredible in my opinion

I really like my 300 f4 pro and the advantage is still size and weight and f4 on 300mm, but I actually think I will use it less now unfortunately after I got the 150-400 pro despite the size and weight just for the ability to use zoom and then internal Tc

want to say that also Olympus 100‑400mm F5.0‑6.3 IS is good alternative a very nice lens for the money that I also have
and the difference between these 3 is actually not that big and if you now have good conditions on the photography days, then whether it is worth the money to upgrade is up to each person to decide

Ronny

PS: should be added that I can't or haven't done any scientific tests but just took some test pictures and compared what I saw and see on my computer screen and formed my own opinion of them

Yep. It's the zoom. It's the built-in TC. It's the size and weight relative to focal length. It's the build quality. Sharpness is excellent, and today's software makes that consideration all but moot. Sold my 300 after using the 150-400 a few times. It's my all-time favorite lens for what I shoot at distance (which does not include dollar bills).

I have been using the 300 f4 with and without the 1.4 TC, for about a year and a half, and love the results. I ordered the 150-600mm when it was first announced, but after using it, I decided that it did not come close enough to my three Pro lens.
I had a conversation with a friend about the benefits of a zoom vs prime lens when shooting birds (my obsession), and started to review all the you tube videos I could find about the 150-600mm, and decided to give it an other go.
Not sure if the firmware updates to my OM-1 Mark II made any difference, but the second copy seems very sharp, with acceptable fast focusing. Actually I have Not used my 300 f4 since the 150-600mm arrived.
I was born in the late 1940s and the weight has not been a burden.
I just love being able to go from 150-600mm. Sometime you just walk up upon a bird that is really close or one that is flying past at speed. The flexibility of the zoom has changed my photo style.
I can now zoom in very close and the shots have wonderful fine detail.
Just a fun lens at about 30% of the cost of the 150-400mm and I have an extra 200mm of reach which I use much more than I expected.
An other alternative to consider. I'm very happy I gave the 150-600mm a second try!
