Good Evening Everyone,

I've been busy lately with some family portraits, I've fully embrace this genre full steam and I have been enjoying some of these results. I've wanted to face my fear of off camera flash and decided that this session I was going to out see if I can make it happen.

Please let me know you thoughts on these

All the Best

Alberto

Great use of OCF. It blends perfectly with the available lighting and you made it look very natural, which in my opinion is one way to very successfully implement OCF into an outdoor shoot. I might suggest a larger modifier though, if only to create somewhat larger catch-lights in their eyes.

Thank You Daniel

I’ve been looking into a larger modifier, maybe a 36” beauty dish or larger. Using a Godox AD200Pro, not sure larger would facilitate the power output though unless add another and go dual. What are you thoughts?

You might try an inexpensive umbrella first to get an idea of the power loss from a single flash.

Well done images!

I use 2-3 single AD200s on location quite a bit for fill (similar to your use here) - even for groups they have plenty of output (I use the Bulb head only - the fresnel head is useless to me)... used in S type brackets with modifiers.

Westcott Halo Mono "brolly boxes" are my favorite for portability, simplicity and light weight. (shooting without an assistant and carrying everything all at once myself on wandering remote shoots that move around) I'm fortunate to have a vintage version that's small (32") and it's the most wind resistant thing I own next to a metal beauty dish. I also have the larger one they currently sell. Beauty dish light can be nice for some things but it's also potentially too hard - good for some looks though depending on your goals.

Foldable soft boxes are another approach - Bowens mount octas in S-type brackets work well with the AD200s. Lots of other alternatives and options out there!

Thank You

I’ve been doing some research on that halo mono, 45” is the only size I can find. Searched for the smaller size you had mentioned but with no success. Do you feel the AD200 with the bulb will render enough light ?

You're welcome!

I did mention the small one was "vintage" - in other words - discontinued. The Halo Mono is more efficient than a simple shoot through - though similarly, it is an omni pattern. There is no internal diffuser (like a soft box) - the AD200 bulb reflects in the silver internal backing to fill it with light to the edges.

The bulb/AD200 w/this is plenty powerful enough for fill and can cover small groups IMO. (I usually use 2 AD200s for group fill - sometimes one more for backlighting). ***Totally YMMV*** - my needs/style is not highly dependent on HSS/overpowering the sun/darkening the backgrounds - I don't often use the "flash look" very often either. If I don't push the flashes hard they can last a very long time on a single charge.
