Hello everyone!
I recently returned from Peru where we visited the northern part of the country looking for specific species and oh boy!
My main target was to find the Marvelous Spatuletail for my guests and we were quite lucky as we had it at two different locations. This remains as my all-time favorite hummingbird and it's listed as endangered due to habitat loss, so it just made it extra special for us.
It was hard to believe that such a small hummingbird with so long tails could disappear in front of us in the blink of an eye!
It was time to find the Royal Sunangel, a perfectly dark blue hummingbird with a relatively long tail and super fast flying!
Found only in the extreme southeast of Ecuador and a few spots in northern Peru, we came home with a few shots.
Probably one of the most sought-after species was the Rufous-crested Coquette, another fine little jewel that is a different subspecies from the one found in Panama, the main difference is that the Peruvian subspecies has black "dots" at the end of the crest, while the Panamanian subspecies does not have them.
In any case, this was a super productive photo tour with lots of birds and hummingbirds, (I photographed 47 species of hummingbirds alone!)
All images take with Sony a1 and 600f/4, sometimes paired with the 1.4X TC
As usual, your comments are most welcome!
