There seem to be two posts about the same thing so apologies for posting this in a 2nd thread:

My B&H pre-order still says back-ordered. I got a call this morning from my favorite store for new items like this and mine is shipping overnight tomorrow and will be here on Friday.

I'll be cancelling my B&H order today since I sure don't need two. I have always had slow delivery when it's a hot item and smaller dealers have have been better. Allen's camera is impossible to beat, and very nice people. Cannot recommend them highly enough.

I think a lot of sellers actually got them today and cannot ship until tomorrow per Nikon.

I have heard the same. It sounds like a few dealers might be a day delayed if they don't get their shipment in time for "street date".

FWIW, Amazon Canada now lists the Z8 to preorder and gives an estimated delivery to my location of May 31 - June 1. Probably means they are in the eastern warehouses. Someone in Ontario may want to check and see if the delivery estimate is even sooner. I'll check again tomorrow once it is the release date and see if the estimate changes and how many they list available to order. Amazon usually has pretty good inventory management when shipped directly from Amazon (as the Z8 is) so they must have more units than they have sold so far.

I think nikon has done a great job filling the pipeline with z8's for the early shipments. I called a dealer today, and I think my z8 will be shipping tomorrow once he gets them in and takes my credit card info.

As I have been saying Nikon has built a much larger inventory of Z8s than is normal for a release of this type. This will be true for the initial shipping, and also the next few batches.

There are some interesting reasons for this. One was that they were significantly delayed in announcing and shipping the Z8 due to trouble sourcing a particular part. This delay allowed them to build a lot of inventory that was almost complete. Once that part started being delivered they have been able to finally finish a large number of units.

My guess is that the initial orders will be filled quickly, and the camera will be available to purchase off the shelf at some retailers sooner rather than later. There will be a lot of happy Nikon shooters over the next few weeks.

Just checked my junk mail and my NPS order says it should be at the retailer between 5/25 and 5/30. Hopefully it will ship tomorrow

I'll be looking forward to seeing if the 1st of 3 reps at B&H may have actually told me the truth about availability and shipping dates coming up with my order. The one said the 1st week in June was more arrivals and I was for sure in that group for a kit. The other 2 said uh uh no way and no idea when more are coming. It will be instructive to perhaps never listen to their answers.

Nikon Rumors reports that B&H are already shipping. I guess we will see.

I never said I was expecting miracles since I just ordered the morning of Tuesday the 23rd. But being misled by a rep is pretty unforgivable if I do say so. I'm not the least surprised I didn't get my kit shipped for Friday. But to be told they didn't even get anything is really out there. We shall see

TBH i am surprised you haven't learned from the Z9 debacle you experienced and voiced on this forum couple years back...

I'm having a deja vu here. Hopefully your order ships soon before you hit every B&H rep and get a different story each time.
