Come on, Isaac, just lift a few weights! Thats why all the Nikon guys take their shirts off when shooting!

Hope the B&H show went well.

Ha! I really am thankful that is not true. And the talk at B&H is June 7th .

Seriously this is the worst thread ever on this forum. Should be locked and some should really get away from the keyboard. Nikon and Sony make gear it means very little in life . You buy what you need and just tell the other brand guy to enjoy his choice. Be right , wrong or indifferent it still is a choice . This behavior here is like a war. WTF and why should anyone care. As an old Pro your words mean shit it’s your images that should be talking. Go out and shoot as I have not seen any

Go golf. When I started this thread I was hoping to see objective comparisons between Sony and the new Nikon Z8 but some of these posts have turned som of the feedback into more of a holy war. Both very good systems and choose what you like.

This thread reminds me of my behavior from a couple of decades ago when people still considered the Nikon D200 as one of the best cameras in color and rendering. Even besting the Canon 5D.

Nikon/Sony/Canon decisions are truly worthless with the fanboy stuff. Very few people sit and analyze this stuff with any Professional shooting level. Most of it is a one feature item that sways the boat. Not to be an ass but also no real experience as a shooter to trust as well. Seriously do you think I would listen to anyone that is not at my level. Im not and why I rarely read a review or watch you tube. I trust very few people that could give me the best advice I maybe seeking. 98 percent of the folks here never used a flash and have no interest or experience in any of that or working with LED lighting and stuff that on the high end comes into play. This is what is really missing in these comparisons . Seriously im not trying to be above all that but look at the audience here is it above your grade where you are confident of getting the best advice. All you can hope for is picking up those little tidbits of info that answer things for you. Worst is the fanboy crap, it does not help anyone. Yea I shoot Sony loved it for years but that's my system, I know it well I know nothing of Nikon for at least a decade. They and Canon failed me by not going mirrorless and IMHO they are behind. Is Sony the best maybe not but it works for my needs that's where you need to get too.

Now please don't think im an asshole. Im a very long time Pro with tons of experience and that's how I think. Not many can help me and I've been shooting Sony im not going to comment on any other system I don't own or know extensively.. Same for many

Seriously I would avoid these threads as worst case scenario and honestly reading it you can see it as worst case. People tend to back their money they spent on a brand. I personally could care less and I think that's the smart move. Buy the need

Well put, Guy.

What's that quote from George Carlin? "People want you to be honest, until you're honest with them and then you're an asshole..."

I'm certainly not at your level, but I've been at this longer than most, and have learned that the only way to understand if a particular product is going to work the way I want/need it to is to buy it myself and use it for a few months. Most YouTube reviews only get to spend a couple of days with a new product, and many of them obviously don't have a clue about professional photography.

I've also learned that people asking for advice mostly just want you to confirm what they already believe, and if you say anything contrary to that, you're a fanboy/troll/asshole...

Well said and I agree. It's not so much my level but my honesty. I know im loved and I know im hated and that's okay but im honest and I will never sway anyone in the wrong direction if I can help it. Reviewers are a joke in most cases they can't get past the second page in the menu if you know what I mean.

BTW I started on Nikon for many years and Canon as well but back than your options where very slim. I have had many different systems and different types of systems.

And then set your A1 EVF to 240p and do the same comparison again with an even faster subject

I got to shoot with the Z8 yesterday for a little while. Got to compare a Z8, Z9 and my A1. It was not nearly enough testing to form an educated decision on how the AF compares. But the EVF on the Z8 and Z9 seemed very jittery to me. It was noticeable the instant I picked it up. I mentioned it to my friend who said no it isn't and then I handed him my A1 and 600 and said have a look. After going back and forth he agreed. While that is not a deal breaker for him

I'm curious about the jitter....was this just looking through the EVF without shooting (like a VR/IBIS issue) or was this while actively firing the shutter and panning with a bird?

Make sure the lens was in Sport VR or else the Z9/Z8 EVF view jumps a lot while firing. Also make sure it was in 120Hz mode.

I will say that I find the Z9 to be the smoothest EVF (in 120hz with VR in Sport) when actively panning and firing. Although for everything else (color, contrast, resolution, ability to judge exposure) I find it inferior to the EVFs from Canon (R5) and Sony (A1).

It was jittery while looking through, locking on and shooting. I was surprised. He has not responded if it was in 120hz mode. I will also ask about the VR just out of curiosity. I mean I have no desire to switch again and the cameras do not thrill. But those lenses are amazing. I am envious...

I wonder if Sony is still the primary manufacturer for the Z8 sensor like the Z9?

Part of the reason that I chose Sony was it's diversification into different product lines. Sony should have a larger R&D budget that will provide cross-over benefits, particularly from their development of cell phone camera sensors. And give the size of the company, provide a bit more financial ballast during an economic downturn
