Today I did my best in following the advice of Morris. So much to remember and so much going on at this fishing pier. I took so many shots and deleted probably 3/4 of them. Here are a few of what I will call lucky shots. I couldn't find my buttons...lol, I was trying it all ... This learning curve is in full bloom.

Thanks for looking and of course c&c is always appreciated.

This one was captured when he landed...a fishing line is hanging off his leg.

A lovely set Carol. My favorite is the great blue heron. Glad I could help. With practice it will get easier

Nice set, I like the last little guy. I've spent some time photographing the fort, never walked the peer, you have convinced me to take the walk next time. Did you get any of the big container ships going by?

Thank you, Morris...practice is vital, and oh-so-hard but I am committed.

Thanks, Eric! The pier is a great spot for birds. Yes, I did I always take a shot, and not sure why.

Very nice. Not always, but many times I learn more from my mistakes than from my success. Looking forward to seeing more from you.

Thanks, John...yes, I am learning a lot. I thought I knew this camera and at that very moment, I fumbled all over...I started laughing at myself in frustration, {not really funny} I genuinely respect these bird photographers.

Thanks, Chris...Cir B is how this all started. I took some shots of an Osprey "Hats off to bird photographers" and asked for advice. I went to DeSoto so I could practice in an open location.

Looks like you did well. Good choices for flight shots. Start with the big guys and work your way down

Yes, the big slow guys because when they zip by me...I'm lost.

Fumbling and feeling defeated but I don't quit it just is going to take time...especially the ones that are coming right at you...Help!! hahahahaha

Thanks, DF!

Nice set from one of my favorite places in FL for birding. So much to see and explore.

Carol, Ft Desoto is also one of my favorited places to photograph birds. I have never shot at the pier, but go to the north parking lot. There are always reddish egrets performing their running dance along with skimmers, terns and more. Not sure if you shoot in raw format or if you use camera raw in photoshop, but I might suggest using the shadow and blacks sliders to bring out a little detail on the underside of the wings . Bruce

Hi Bruce, Thanks for the heads up for North Beach, I will check it out. Yes, I shoot raw and will give your suggestions a try...this learning curve is endless. Thank you!

Carol, I agree with Bruce about bringing out detail on various parts of a body, wing or head.

If I can offer any useful suggestion, the most important (IMO) before pressing the shutter button is your background. Is it pleasing? Often you have no choice. Most of the time you do.

Thanks for sharing.
