Great detail in these images. And a good example of how far things have come to be able to shoot at these ISO setting and come away with such images.
The LR denoise feature is certainly a welcome addition. Currently it is slower than DxO PL6. And results are not quite as good. Particularly if there is a DxO optics module for camera/lens used. PL6 does a good job at default setting and the interface with LR is pretty seamless. Using the feature in LR requires a bit of trial and error tweaking the slider. Though the sample window updates in real time to it works pretty darn well. But no doubt after a couple of update cycles Adobe will continue to improve and third party NR software won't be necessary.
Regarding only working on RAW files that's really the key to the newer AI versions of NR software. The denoising is done on the RAW data during the conversion process. The further upstream denoising occurs the more effective it is and you can't push it further upstream than during RAW conversion....Show more →
Thanks Dan. I've not used PL6 but I've heard good things about it. I'm content using LR for now. At least from what I've seen so far.

Thanks so much for taking the time to type that out Dave, Very much appreciated! YouTube here I come to watch some LR videos! heh.
Yeah, I'm doing so many extra steps right now that PP has become a huge chore and mental block for me. First I cull down and delete obvious bad junk in Sony Edit viewer. Then DNG Convert the remaining batch/then ACR//then CC15 for final tweaks w/ Topaz plugin and final Crop to jpg. (I know IQ would be better upstream with Topaz on initial RAW, but it does weird things to my RAW settings after I tweak exposure and temperature etc in ACR and Topaz throws everything way off, and that is WITH Topaz set to leave my RAW settings intact) Ugh... I actually find myself wanting to limit what I shoot so I don't have to go through all that PP. So PP has become a real chore...and that's NOT a good thing. If I could do it ALL in one place like LR, well, that would be HUGE for me.
The other problem isn't so much a problem, it's just a new reality that I have to adjust to...It's the keeper rate with my new camera, it's so high, I don't need anywhere near as many safety shots as my old DSLR, and that is a hard habit to break. I can slow down now and concentrate more on the image itself than just trying to get "one" good out of a zillion or 20 shots of each pose change, a couple extra will be more than enough. It'll just take time for me to trust the equipment I guess, but man, I've never filled a 64gb card so fast in my life as with the RV in H+ shutter mode. 10fps at 61mp is fun, but it has consequences. I don't know what those guys with the A1 do at 30FPS. It almost makes me glad I don't have one, I'd be my own worst enemy and not be able to resist using it, then be chained to my desk for a week after a photo shoot! !
Thanks again,
Eric...Show more →
Right there with you as far as hating the culling process. It can suck the wind right out of your sails before you ever get to processing any images.
One tactic I'm trying to force myself to do is to NOT scan through and delete any images at first. Rather, scan for and 4 star rate any images that you like. Then display/filter only the 4 star rated images and start narrowing them down to the very best by lowering the star rating of any that don't hold up against the others. Some time at a later date go back through them and delete any you have no love for.
