Good Afternoon,

I am going to Costa Rico this summer and want to get a Macro lens for my R6 Mark II.
Main goal is to be able to shoot the Red Eyed frog and similar size critters.
Will be taking my tripod but may be be shooting hand held mostly. 430EX will go as well, but don’t have any modifers for macro for it.

In know about the different magnification factors 2:1 for the 85mm and 1:1.4 for the 100mm.
Read and viewed about a dozen reviews, including mention of a (unsubstantiated) focus shift issue with the 100 2.8.

Maybe anyone can give me some experience based advice what would be the best choice for me in this (red eyed frog).
case?

I will also bringing my 100-400 L IS II, which has a very short MFD but guess that won’t cut it..

Thanks in advance,

Marco

The RF100 is very good and the obvious choice here. Bring your flash and get a cheap portable diffuser (search for Angler on B&H. It’s like $10. It is way better than it should be).

I’ve shot frogs and bugs etc with this in Ecuador. Try it out at home first. Use M and start with ~f8, ~1/250, ~ISO 400 (change iso to correct exposure). Set your flash to M and ~1/64 or 1/32 power.

Have fun and also look for bugs!
