May be it’s too late, but knowing how minuscule their share is, I really applaud their attempt to even think and launch such an ultra niche product.

Hope it meets or exceeds Ricoh/Pentax target sales and they keep launching such products in future

Too bad, it's not full frame. I'd really be interested in that, as I have a ton of excellent Pentax K-mount Alt lenses.

This will be screaming at me to give it a try. Just when I had successfully pared down my digital kit (still have too many film cameras).

I've never used a Pentax digital camera so will need to learn more. For instance, can they use the classic manual focus K-mount lenses without an adapter? I do understand the crop factor will come into play.

I’ve been waiting for an affordable B&W only camera and I’m tempted but APS-C at $2200 is quite pricey. Those “limited” Pentax lenses are great though. Now what?

I was so interested in this, started pricing out Pentax lenses..

Then I realized this is actually a dslr.. like with a mirror and everything. In 2023.

Then I got sad and will just sit here and hope they make a Ricoh GR III(x) monochrome.

Well, I got myself a rangefinder, so I guess a dslr could also work. I’m used again to having to chimp once in a while to make sure I’m not completely off with my exposure, or wondering why the menu doesn’t show up in the finder…

Yes, all Pentax DSLRs function with all K-mount lenses without an adapter. K- and M- series lenses must use stop-down metering using the green button (or the grey button on this new K-3III monochrome), but A-series lenses and all autofocus lenses will use regular metering when the aperture ring is in the A position.

I don’t mind APS-C but won’t get an 800g DSLR body in 2023. I’ve got a pretty good raw mono workflow that allows me to never see a color image using my Sony A7r II so I’ll stick with that for now.

This is a strangely compelling camera... monochrome and flappy mirror. Pentax's excellent build quality, too. Instant classic. Might buy a used one later on hmmm.

I don’t know. Can’t see myself spending that much on just monochrome and I can get monochrome out of any digital camera I have. Yet, there is something appealing about being forced to just think in B&W.

Just take a quick flip of a button on your M11 to shoot in monochrome mode, and get the full mono experience.

I could never rationalize going back to a DSLR shooting experience. It offers no benefit.

Oh yeah, not at MSRP for sure. Maybe a used one at a good price years from now if I could find one... not a "must-have now".

I could imagine getting this just as a fun casual camera. No rationalization needed.

Nah, it’s the fact that you don’t have a choice but to shoot monochrome that makes it interesting. Suddenly, you have to think in tones rather than colors. At the same time, I think I prefer to actually have a choice 99% of the time.

This is great! Well, full frame would have been nice but they also have such a great range of excellent DA lenses, including DA limiteds. I moved away from Pentax to Spny years ago but I still miss Pentax for various reasons. This can be a great camera for special shooting (and learning) experiences.

As a lens one might also go for the lovely 20-40 Limited instead of the limited primes.

I have just ordered my K-3III Monochrome. I‘m very much looking forward to it. I have been interested in this real monochrome cameras for a long time, but Leica was too expensive for me. The Pentax is about 25% in price. I am very excited to encounter a new way of taking pictures, of seeing etc. And in contrast to Leica I don‘t have to do without autofocus

Couldn‘t be more happy.

The Pentax Monochrome is said to be limited, so I didn‘t want to miss the chance.
